my 1972 fury wagon from the field to daily driver

Well I pulled the gauge cluster today. Pretty crusty nothing worked in it at all.
IMG_5570.jpeg
I dove right into taking it apart
IMG_5572.jpeg
are these condenser for the gauge cluster?

I hate rust so much

Also dove into the heater/Ac wiring. This is gonna be fun I hate crappy reworked wiring. All this just to find out the blower motor is fired

Take your time. I’m not sure what the condenser is for. The can above it is the voltage regulator for the gauges. I would recommend replacing it with a solid state regulator. I have replaced one in my 69 Fury.
I bought it from a gent on fleabay.

Good luck on the project, that looks like a solid car unlike a lot of the cars around here. Keep us posted!

Have I mentioned yet how much I hate electrical gremlins. spend 3 days trying to find the dome light delay relay. Any way solder on all new bulb sockets for the gauge cluster today

last weekend I also put a new blower motor in that was pain even more annoying is I have take the finder liner back out because the cage started rattling. Took the fender liner to work and sprayed it

lastly my friend got his film back from getting developed. All these photos were when we went to the drive in outside Portland to see Barbie movie opening weekend. It was packed! The wagon idle for an hour and a half on 95 degree day didn’t miss a beat

Been a while and wanted to document my newest project on the wagon. The nightmare that is the rear tailgate. So here is the list of problems needing fixed
A.Gate will not lock
B. regulator is seized
C. Installing new motor (it was missing)
D. Get gate mode to work
E. Shed a tear
I have tested the motor I got off a member here
and it works and the wiring is good. Heres were the fun starts. Trying to take the rear glass out has proven to be hard. I unbolted the regulator and got the glass free from that. But can’t get the slide Channels off. The screws just spin the rear washer/nut is there any trick to it? Here’s a bunch of pictures in the mean time till I get some of the gate insides

Here’s the “restored dash” still gotta get the temp and gas gauge working. The speedometer worked for 2 week with the new cable before the gauge itself broke

Got the regulator fished out and soaking it in PB blaster along with everything in the gate. New goal is to get the damn gate into gate mode. Seems the linkage is all moving freely but the left side latch is frozen. More Pb blaster for it. Once it gose into gate mode I will be able to loosen the glass guide rails and pull it out. Then I can take out the lock mechanism and see what’s frozen in it.

My dad saw the regulator on the bench and got sucked into freeing it. So now I just gotta get the hardware and mount the motor. And more good news had my friend kick the gate while held the switch and we got it free
IMG_6217.jpeg

So now I just gotta figure out why the gate is not locking. It seems that it’s sticking here

rear gate still is not put back together so I may as well Procrastinate and do other work. Decide this weekend to add headlight relays, high beams where randomly going off and on so hope this will fix it. Also took the glove box door off… well it kinda fell of and found some fun rust. Sometimes I wonder why I get myself into these situations :/
