My 67 newport fuel gauge problems

Hi, I'll start by saying my fuel gauge doesn't move! I have done a lot of trouble shooting with this with no resolve yet, I have checked and replaced the fuel sender(old one was bad). I grounded the sender wire to the frame,( I have since added the factor ground strap) At that point once for a few seconds the gauge started to move then went to empty to never move again . I have since then rechecked sender, power/volts/resistance to and from back of cluster , removed cluster checked wires , checked voltage limiter, it puts out 5v give or take , replaced my fuel gauge & limiter(also puts out 5v) with fuel gauge from another cluster (used but looks perfect). still no movement. is there something I am missing here? with power to everything like I have I wonder if I need to try another fuel gauge at this point?? thanks for any advice! Have you checked for continuity at the sender wire itself? Check all the way from the sender to the gauge.

The terminal on the sender wire can expand and make for a weak/bad connection. Check it and give it a pinch with pliers if questionable.

The gauge cluster is grounded to the dash frame as well. Double check that it is secure.

Also double check the factory ground strap that you installed.

I had a total power loss in my black 2DHT due to what I thought was a ammeter gone bad. after replacing the gauge and tinkering with it, I found that one of the two posts was not making good contact. A twist on the post with pliers reestablished continuity.

So double check the terminals and connections on the fuel gauge itself.

I actually did go back and check most of the things you suggested, Turns out it was the gauge itself! I found another whole cluster from a friend yesterday, tested the gauge in it & it works!! so in a day or two when I have time to swap them I will have a working gas gauge ..YaHoo! thanks for your reply & suggestions!
