My Imp at Cars & Coffee

There's no such thing as taboo in my world. What would you recommend for a bunch of non-working gauges? If your answer is to fix them one at a time, I'm gonna go with no-thank-you.

How about tattoos on tits, another, never mind...lol. My recommendation on the gauges would be to fix them all at once instead of one at a time. :) Many times a little effort with cleaning the terminals will fix them. A new tank sending unit? Speedo cable if that is not working. My Brother bought a GTO that has the gauges changed out. If you disconnect the battery, you have to reset the speedometer by driving from one mile marker to the next. I have never heard a pleasant word from him about it.

You can buy a gps unit for the speedo for under $200.

I'm going with the sawzall option since I have no patience for non-working gauges.

Messing with a dash is almost taboo, proceed at your own risk. Especially with a very nice low mile car.

Ross, I'm being serious here when I say do NOT cut up the dash. Don't let all the accolades the Pimperial give you feelings that you're invincible. You'd be making a huge irreversible mistake. It's not a Belvedere that you can mess around with and then say Oh well when it looks hacked.
Good gawd, lad, at least have Dakota Digital make you an instrument panel that will fit right in without a sawzall.

You're too funny, Stan. It has nothing to do with accolades and I'm not gonna use a sawzall. The rectangular configuration should be easy to fit a modern cluster in but I'll measure twice and cut once...

Makes no sense. You are going to take apart the dashboard and cut and hack aftermarket gauges into it because it's easier than simply replacing the gauges...

Your mind is a dark and mysterious place...

If Ross does what he wants he can still use the original mounting points for the upgraded gauges, and then he wouldn't have a cut up dash. That's what I would do. I know it will turn out great.

I'm kinda with Ross on changing the gauges.

The dash in the 70's Imperials really don't do much for me. They look a little cheap for the car.

I'd look at something digital that disappears when the car is off or at least something that looks "built in" rather than a bunch of gauges bolted into some round holes. It won't be cheap to do it right though... Cheaper to fix what's there.

That's just my opinion though and it's not worth much.

What he said. ^^^^

I promise that it won't be a hack job but I'm not gonna f around with the factory gauges cuz they weren't great to begin with.

Well, That's a complicated cluster of idiot lights, gear selector indicator, switches, radio, HVAC controls, gauges, and gawd knows what else.
F up that dash panel and you're up the creek....
I can't see how to integrate aftermarket gauges and make it look right.

Yes, I know this is a '69 but...

I mean, what are you going to do? Cut out a rectangular piece of sheet metal and cut a bunch o circles and little rectangles in it? Maybe even "engine turn" the surface? Ewe...

Don't forget to add a NASCAR quick release steering wheel and a big *** tach with a shift light!!!!

Too much carryover from the Chryslers or rather all with a little tack on stuff and it already looks too cheap in a NewYorker.
