Very interesting car… I assume it’s original FE5 “Rallye Red” (which was probably called something else on an Imperial).
This is great information. ..i really appreciate everyone's feedback on this one...I will have many questions as I dive into it soon...that VIN tag may help with the type of Red color...it's kind of orangey in a way.
It’s a point of minor fascination to me that Chrysler pushed these Easter-Egg colored Imperials. In terms what I’ve seen 45 years later, most common a tie between the Light (Mist) Green and Light (Sunfire) Yellow, then Blue Sky. Least common appears to be Rallye Red. If I were a collector with infinite space, I’d like to get one of each! Below was as close as I came, but I couldn’t keep that going for long… it’s just too much to store and I didn’t have the hiding places (e.g. rental properties) back then that I do now.
You may find this interesting… I think Chrysler intended a travelin’ C-body road show back in ’73 with “light custom” versions of a Newport Coupe (Mariner), Fury 4drhtp (Aspen), Polara Coupe (Sundance) AND
a Rallye Red 4drhtp Imperial, w/white leather and sunroof, ABS, tape deck, etc. Murray Park owns that car now after discovering it in a Detroit backyard.
Good luck with the car. Obviously the side-pipes are silly with duals exiting the rear. White-letter-moonies belong on ’57 Chevys with fuzzy dice and poodle skirts. That previous owner should have to register on a spray-paint offenders list. If I were you and somebody had already screwed up my roof, I’d seriously consider swapping in a factory sunroof. But at any rate, please preserve it as well as you can. It’s a rare one.
