Mystery knob

Will the cable push in or out when the knob is turned all the way to the left? And to the right?
 
Can't see how that would help. That is NOT stock.

Yeah huh... tiz so... I could take pictures of 10 different ones still in cars if you would like, and also take a picture of the knob in my '68 operators manual... Or... we could make another wager first...?

Well, that sure looks like it. The weird thing is that my gauge cluster definitely does not have a trip odometer, and the manual doesn't mention one either. You can see in this pic that there's only one odometer, and it includes tenths.

what a great dash design, one of my favorites. I dont remember ever taking notice to the tripometer in anything that early
 
I would check the car itself again to be sure they didn't do a mid-year change on the clock...

Or... the trip odometer was an option and the speedometer was changed like I thought possible earlier.

I think the trip odometer was standard on the Chryslers starting in '63...
