Need 71 Fury towed from Twinsburg, OH Looking for help $$$

Hello everyone, I hope this is the right place to post this. I recently bought a 71 fury in Ohio and hired a professional company to have it moved. I just got an email from them asking for more money than what was originally agreed upon. I guess they are just a broker and they quoted me a low ball price. (This is my first time trying to do this)

If there is someone who would like to earn some side money? The car is located in Twinsburg, OH and has to be off the property by the 28th of this month. I am even open to having it taken anywhere till I can get a commercial hauler lined up again. I have a friend in Mountain View, MO who is willing to let me store it at her place as long as I need. Eventually the car is going to AZ so I would welcome prices on that as well as having is hauled to Missouri.

What did they initially quote you and what are they asking now???
 
$1100 now up to $1200. But I'm not a big fan of playing games....
That happens. They thought they could get it done for 1100 but no one is biting...they may have a truck ready to move it for 1200 that's why they are asking. I've had to pay a bit more to move cars quicker. I've also got screaming deals. That's how the transport/broker game works.

Sounds pretty normal to me.
 
Try to find a company that you deal directly with that is not a broker. Search on here for transport companies and you will find some recommended companies but your needing the car moved quickly, you are going to pay more.
 
Brokers suck

Worse when they act like they have a fleet of trucks. What they really have is a list and a phone, probably 50+ years old still living and working in their parents basement.
 
FWIW, I just had a similar experience moving a ‘72 NYB from NY to IL. The initial quote was $600, plus broker fee of $150. Very reasonable I thought. The price, though, had to go up by $250 before the company (whose services others and I had useda number of times without any issue before Covid) got a trucker to accept to do it. It took five weeks in total, and pickup is later today. Apparently Covid-19 is creating problems, especially in New York.

The broker gave me back half of his fee as comp for the delay, which was nice. Still, my total cost is $175 more than I had expected :BangHead:

Pay the piper. You have a ‘cost of vacancy’ situation and you may run into delays and additional cost if you seek alternative providers.

I recently had a car shipped and the broker didn’t get it done when I wished, in spite of me notifying them three weeks or more in advance. They did get the job done about a week after I wish, and didn’t ask me for additional funds. Best of luck and when you need something moved, with a deadline for instance, you don’t have many options.
 
Just remember when the truck gets there he will have no idea of the $100, that is lining the brokers pocket and they can be under the percentage ceiling per FMCA regs and they still got the extra hundy.

Search trucking companies,
not transporting autos/cars etc.
Ask them how much the heavy highway use tax is from year to year. If they have to check move on to the next one. It's a easy answer.

In the case of the company I use (A and A Auto Transport), the driver gets paid cash directly when he delivers the car. So he will most certainly see the $250 difference.
 
I'd pay the extra 100.00 just to get it done. I have paid an average of $1.00 a mile for my transport needs. Not sure your exact mileage from A to B. I use one broker and have had 10 different drivers. I've been lucky with no upcharges after the fact. But, it is stated to me it could happen once they see car. A couple times a driver couldn't fit an Imperial on the trailer so they have taken a hit driving out of their way and not making a pickup without correct size trailer. Then they go back with bigger trailer. No additional charge.

The broker you told me about was well over $1/mile, $2500 on an open trailer vs $1000 if I could get th car across the border. Not complaining, the Canada crossing makes it worse I guess. Still seeing if I can get the car myself, road trips are always better, imo.

I should have stated the *Canadian Imperial was more...I forgot that one...that definitely was true with the border paperwork. The others in the US were definitely about $1/mile.

That's on top of the $470 for customs.

Until he settles up with the company. He sees it go by his eyes to the company. If your actually dealing with a transport company it may be most likely up and up. With a broker I can guarantee it never sees the driver. This is why hundreds of trucks showed up in Washington DC to protest these brokers.
 
I have to agree with all these guys. Pay the extra money and secure that car. This is coming from someone who once flat towed a 70 cuda from Yuma to Phoenix with a wire rope to save $65. I’m all about cheap but transportation is in a shambles right now so I’d lock it up and get it home.
