My friend had a stroke in April 2024. He is 81. Luckily he recovered and has been approved to drive, but due to weakness on his left side he will no longer be able to drive his 1949 Chrysler New Yorker with Fluid Drive, not enough strength to press the clutch pedal and control the non power standard steering. So he would like to sell it. He asked me to help him
The car is a 1949 (early series)Chrysler New Yorker, 4 door sedan. The New Yorker was redesigned for 1949 in a 3 box design, but was delayed until mid year, so Chrysler continued the 1948 model as a 1949 “early series”. So there were 2 completely different New Yorkers to choose from for 49. This car has an all original 2 tone interior with slightly over 40,000
original miles, straight 8, black exterior. Beautiful chrome.
I am looking for opinions on where to find a value of this car and the best place to sell it. One of my friends suggested
Bring a Trailer, but I don’t know anyone who has used it. Any insight will be appreciated. Photos of the car attached

Nice looking car, but I wasn't aware that a 1949 Chrysler all original interior included seatbelts and fold down center armrest. Learn something new on this site every day. Good luck with the sale.

obviously the seatbelts were added. I am no expert on this car or era. It is a nice car, but I have zero interest in cars earlier than the 60s. I can only tell you what the owner told me and I was looking for any advice from the car gurus on this site that can give me ideas as to what would be the best avenue to help my friend sell it.

Thanks John, that pricing info from Hagerty will be a great help.
I will relay it to my friend, and proceed from there. Final decisions will be up to him, but he can no longer be the caretaker of this car
I think I will suggest listing it on Hemmings.

That is a real beauty. Good luck with the sale. Here are a couple from Bring a trailer.

That's a really nice car. I really like the 47-48 Chryslers.

I don't know how accurate the Hagerty price guide is, so more research may be needed.

It is a very nice looking car, and I sincerely meant that. But also like you, I don't have the time left to be genuinely interested in a car like that (or any more cars for that matter). And that could be the biggest problem you'll have in finding a buyer to that era of car. Very limited buyers for a '40's era car could hurt the seller's chances for top dollar. Good luck with the sale, and kudo's to you for trying to help your buddy.

PS, I agree that Hemmings might be the best place to advertise the car. Bring a trailer used to be quite well respected, but over the last few years there has been some controversy there and claims of shill bidding.

Then from Collector Car Value current estimates. To me Hagerty has always been on the high side since they track asking prices more than sold prices.

1946-48 are all the same for all Mopar cars

1949 was totally different

Only the Chryslers and DeSoto cars had an 8-cylinder motor offered as well as the 6

I owned a few 1946-48 Dodges years ago...

There is a forum here that might help:

Also, this one is devoted to the 1946-48 Dodge and Plymouth cars and trucks circa that era:
