I have a 1965 Polara and what I wanted to no is if someone made 440 motor mount brackets to install a newer 440 like a 1970 block into the 1965 polara .

I was told that the 1965 block has a different bolt patern than the 70 440 block.

The rubber motor mount has 2 studs on each side.

Or do I need to have them made .

Thanks for any help

 '62 and newer B & RB will all interchange. The earlier ones had an 8 bolt crank with bolts that threaded into the converter and they also had a different starter that was retained into the late '60s for pickups and even later for the trucks. The valve covers had only 4 bolts on the '58 to I think '64, early 60's rocker arm changes and a pushrod change in '68, but not much else comes to mind for interchange concerns.

You just have to be aware of the '72 and up that were externally balanced, which is just a difference (interchange concerning) in a weighted torque converter or an aftermarket weighted flex plate.

If your new block has the mounting bosses for the 65 style left motor mount you can just drill/tap them and it'll go right in. The pic shows the bosses on the front of the block just above the oil pump and you can see the standard 'ears' just behind.

If your Polara is like my 65 Fury, you MUST read this...

I haven't found any viable alternatives to the factory style mounting.

Thanks for the link that's what I needed to see.

Thanks I had a buddy take the motor mount brackets off the motor and me being stupid didn't look at how they where bolted on and my buddy can take things apart and put something's together as long as you tell him what you want , anyway when I went to put the driver's side back on I thought that it bolted to the 3 ears on the side of the block and when I asked my buddy to show me how it was bolted on he couldn't remember ( didn't have a clue) LOL and that's ok cause it was my fault for not looking at it and getting ahead of my self .

I never thought that it bolted to the 2 bosses in the front of the block cause the motor that's going in has the bosses but there not drilled and the motor that came out of the car I already sold and the new owner already picked it up , what chaos LOL I thought the world was ending HAHA and the you guy's came to the rescue buy posting some link's and picture's.

Now all I have to do is drill and tap the hole's and the motor is ready to go in , Thank you very much guy's.

I also took the column cable shift 727 trans out and replaced it with newer 1970 727 trans , when I had the 2 transmission out side by side I noticed that the trans mount is back further on the newer trans , so I cut almost 2'' out of the trans mount and welded it back to the cross member ,and while I had the trans mount off I also had to mill 2 slot's into the mount for the trans to bolt to , the cable shift trans has a wider footprint than the later model 727 .

Any way it's getting there hope to be on the road in a couple week's but time will tell LOL

Please don't try it holding a hand drill....

I have no choice , I will let you no how it goes , I am pretty good with a hand drill I have had to drill lots over the years lol I was a welder/fitter for 35 years so I think this will be pretty easy nock on wood .

All done worked out great , cast iron is so easy to drill .

I'll take some pix tomorrow and post them and I will do a step by step write up for anyone else that has to do this , don't be afraid to do it it's very easy to do.

Yeah, it's really quite simple to do, hand drill or no. I do remember the first time I did it, my Dad was all kinds of worried I'd drill into the water jacket or an oil passage so I was extremely relieved when it worked just fine. Glad it worked out for you.
