Hello All,

First post here. I am excited to join! My husband and I are proud owners of a 1965 Plymouth Sport Fury (318) and will be picking up our 1967 Plymouth VIP (383) this week. YAY! We are always the only Sport Fury at our Annual Mopar show here (or any show for that matter) and I suspect that we will be the only 1967 VIP also. We like to collect those MOPAR's that are hardly seen anymore. So I have a few questions!

1. The VIP is in great condition and it runs very strong. When we saw it the first time, we noticed that it has an added door strip that had a coordinating color rubber/plastic strip. It looks like it was added to prevent dings from other people's doors. It is not peel and stick, it looks professionally done and certainly not a newly added piece. However, I cannot find any pictures with this addition and I do not know if this was an option from the factory or dealer or was added on after purchase. I think it looks nice and was nicely done although the rubber/plastic part will need to be replaced. See pictures, sorry I do not have any yet of real close up.

2. Some idiot took out the original radio and I am having a hard time finding one or knowing the exact size the space for the radio SHOULD be. So if you have info on that also, I would greatly appreciate it!

3. This is an A/C car. Anyone know of the correct parts for an A/C conversion or where we can get the parts?

4. I am also missing the vinyl roof emblems (looks OK without) and one sde of the trim could use repair, so if there is a stash of those somewhere and you know about it, please share. :)

I would love any info you have about either of our cars, finding info, parts, basically anything is difficult for the 2 MOPAR's we have.

Thanks!
Katy Goldsmith

Welcome to the site from the Motor City! Nice car you have there. Somebody will chime in soon that knows these particular cars better but my guess is that that body side molding isn't factory. If you can't find parts from anybody on this site Murry Park in Ohio will probably have what you need.

Welcome and cool car! Can you post some pics when you have time of the 65 Sport Fury. As for the trim you're talking about, never came on the car from the factory like that, but if it looks good, keep it..! I'm pretty sure they had trim close to the top of the doors that followed the body line s from front to back. For parts Murry Park is the best. He's sometimes take a while to get back to you though, but they will. Again, welcome aboard!

That trim was widely used down here in Florida to prevent dings and alike, it is a dealer installed item, not factory backed/or designed. it is a nice piece of extrusion riveted onto the center body line and a rubber strip slides inside. A/C call classic auto air everything under the hood new and well designed for around $500, it uses the factory airbox under the dash, they will also rebuild that if you like great people.

Hey Katy thats a sweet Fury you have there, regarding the radio, Im wondering if its the same unit as used in the Chrysler newport too? i have one of them spare here, if anyone can supply a picture of an original radio in their 67/68 Plymouth we may be able to help you with that one. Cheers!

Thats definitely different to mine, my radio has thumb wheels either side of the buttons and a chrome surround.

Wow, I can't believe the amount of help I have received so far! It is just great.

Detmatt/Polara - Thanks!

66SportFury - I upload tonight or tomorrow from work. (I tried from my cell, it may have worked but I don't know)

AcreageAircooled - Awesome to know, we really hoped it would be at least a dealer option and "period correct". Your trim looks exactly like this one except it is blue in our car. Thanks for the AC bit also!

68Plymouth383/Wollfen - That sure does look like it would fit and I have seen them on ebay which also says it would fit but I am weary of the eBay "it will fit". Do either of you have this radio for sale? If so, what are you asking?

Thanks again! I have learned so much already. Keep it coming!

BTW, per the original owners manual, it is a Costa Mesa, CA. car.

Thanks!
Katy

Hi AA,

As far as the rubber insert in the body trim, any ideas on where/how I can refabricate/replace?

Thanks!

:sSig_greetingsthor: ............. :welcome:

Glad you found us........ A beautiful pair of Plymouths you have.
You should locate the original factory service manuals ...... and parts books. They can be very helpful.
Will.
