new love.........

Well, not my problem.
There may have been a thread but I missed it.
I was just pointing out the goody standards austrAust makes people go through to get a car into their country, and that the potential buyer wasn't being some jackass by nature.

No, it's certainly not your problem, it's his.

I already bought "what I want" back in 1969 when I saw the first '70 Fury in the dealer showroom. He had a triple black GT and I told the salesman I want one of those only red with a drop top. He said "No can do" so I optioned a Fury III rag top up to GT level. The only thing missing was the hidden headlight grill. Took 45 years but I finally got my grill!!
Now if the market price goes "Way Up" my wife will have to quit with all her "money pit" comments.
Unfortunately I won't be able to even think "I told you so!", that could be detrimental to my health!!
And she may tell you to sell and all that money will go into her hand...

Mrs. Doba has a simple formula for me to follow: Every dollar spent on cars gets an equal amount on travel/vacation destinations of her choice.. really is a win/win for me. I spent our anniversary this weekend elbows deep in an engine tear down...now I am booked to go cruise the Mediterranean...simple

That's my deal as well, but since I'm doing all myself and a real cheapskate on parts and supplies trips are limited to an overnight at Carlisle and occasional rides into the countryside.....

I've read about a west coast business that certifies a vehicle is asbestos free, apparently they go through the car and remove it.

Good business opportunity for the couple who run it. I understand that cars have been torn apart by inspectors and the owner pays the repair costs.

Haven't asked about it here, but there's less hassles in NZ, can even keep the gas in the air conditioner when importing the car.

So where does one find asbestos in a C-body? Maybe OEM brake shoes, however replacements are all asbestos free so no problem. A walk around video is only fair for a buyer that far away and probably needed to get shipping insurance. I'd make one for self protection just in case the car acquires a dent or scrape during shipping and the shipper wants to do the he said I said dance.

I'm an odd duck when it comes to money, I hate accounting, banks and taxes. As such my wife looks after everything, I don't deal with money at all. I carry a Visa card that always works and always gets paid off each month. So yes if the car is ever sold, the proceeds will simply fall into one of the black holes she uses.

according to the government information- asbestos can be in headliner, asphalt undercoating, mastic sealer, seam sealer, under carpets as floor insulation etc, am really glad I'm in NZ.

Well, looks like buying a car from America has become a huge PITA for Oz. I can't think of any private seller wanting, or even trying to, get their car certified "asbestos free".
If he wanted the car that bad, I'm sure the export agent is set up for that. I'm not doing it.

I wouldn't want anything to do with that either... let them arrange the certification, and stay hands off on the exporting... seems like too many liabilities to want to take on for a single car sale.

That is probably a nice business opportunity, but IDK if it will stop the other side of the ocean from wanting to pull the car apart again... IMO that's just a law to kill importing the stuff, and I'd guess there are other laws regarding existing products they are using to diminish the stuff they already have.

For the USA, it's a matter of time before they kill off more of the old car hobby. The old car junkyards are already severely reduced and then it will be a matter of what's profitable to reproduce. Sooner or later it will get much more difficult to keep an old car on the road here... it already has in a lot of ways.

Your wife and my wife must be twins separated at birth...

Got a great offer on the NYB this week from Austrailia.
After accepting the offer, he hits me with that he needs a certificate saying the car is asbestos free and he needs a walk around video.
Told him I was canceling the deal. Bullshit on that.
Asbestos free certificate?? Wtf.
And after taking the video, I'll bet he starts nitpicking.

Send me money. Pickup car. What's so hard?

Make a video that ends with you sniffing the car's (brake) shoes. It either works, or you've invented a whole new **** fetish.
