Only a fool would let the monkey near such a near perfect original.
Don't get me wrong, they do neat stuff, but not who ya want for real resto work. We were in just the right spot at just the right time. The car was placed in a "barn" 27 years ago and the owners built a wall around it and one other vehicle and then just left it there. A buddy of ours wanted the truck that was keeping this car company behind the wall - Seller insisted "you take both or none", so we split the deal with him. The only work we are having done at this time is to have her woken up (fresh fluids, tires, brakes, battery, etc) What you see in the pics is exactly how she came out of the barn. the interior needs a good wipe down, exterior needs a bath, but she s exactly what she was when parked 27 years ago. The mechanic of choice? The same guy who parked it in the first place and covered the maintenance work when she was in service prior. A little shop in Ferris, TX. (sure, I'll plug the shop! - R& W Automotive) Good Ol' Boy networking at it's finest. And he KNOWS what she should sound like from personal experience.

We did get bad news yesterday though....seems as thought the gas tank was removed from the car at some point in the last 27 years, so we have everything BUT the tank (go figure!) Temp solution is we are having our buddy at R&W temp install a fuel cell until we can come up with a better option. Fingers CROSSED!

You will need a 65 (only) Fury tank as the 65 Fury has a fender mounted fill tube and the 66 fury has a fill tube behind the license plate. I have owned both years (currently still have my 65).

Very nice Fury what engine?

Funny you should ask! We were originally thinking was a 383/2BBL car, but when I looked at it in person, it doesn't have any 383 badges, and the distributor is at the rear (I don't know of any big block Mopars with a rear dizzy.)

Visually it looks like a big block, but I'm thinking I scored a Poly 318 (which suits me fine, since I have a spare Poly in the shop that I picked up for a song and a dance a few months ago) which would account for the block size.

Just gotta ask, who in Dallas did the work for you? Was it the monkey by chance?

Not the Monkey. Found the car in the little town I grew up in. Turns out I've been driving by the barn it was in most of my life. The mechanic I'm using is a local guy there, shop I've known of for more years than I care to count.

I've been to his shop, and I'd never say never to letting Monkey work on a car, but not an original. If I were working over an original car at *that* level, I'd take it to the Count.

Nothing against Gas Monkey--they do some pretty cool custom/mod work, but having looked at both shops, Kounts Kustoms would be my choice for a true restoration.

Really, all I'm having done right now is a brake job/fluid flush, drain/fill the oil, tranny, cooling, rear-end, new tires, belts, hoses, repacking the bearings, and cleaning out the carb and fuel lines -- just cleaning out the gunk from nearly 30 years of storage.

These pics are all "before" ... I'll post the "afters" once I get the car in my hands!

I like! Judging from the TX tag style, it's likely been 25 years or so since it was last on the road. I love the '65 spinner caps.

28, to be exact. Turns out the guy that's working on it was the last to drive it, and he parked it in the barn right before they built a wall around it. It was preserved, along with a '56 Apache pickup for all these years. An old friend of ours came across them as a package deal, and wanted the Apache...he knew I was a Mopar freak, and figured I'd want in...of course, he was right!

One of those things that can only really happen in a small town.

Umm it might not fit, I was thinking 65-66.

I don't think so. We tried a tank that was referenced for a 65 Fury already and it didn't line up. It appears to be a OYO model specific part.

Apparently the Sport Fury is a slightly different animal. At this point, I'm having them install a fuel cell under the car and plumb it in, with instructions not to make any modifications I can't undo when I do find (or have fabbed) a proper tank.

With any luck I'll be able to cross-reference it in due time, and find something ... or pull something out of a boneyard that will either work, or give me workable dimensions to have a fabricator make me a tank.

I appreciate the effort!!

ROFL!

It looks like I should read through ALL the posts before I start replying...wife beat me to some of my own commentary!

I gotta brag on her...not only does she like the old cars (heck, she's the one that got me back to working on cars), not only did she keep me from sullying her '67 Skylark by buying me my very own CloneRunner (with instructions to "make it lope when it idles"), but when we first looked under the hood of this one her first comment was "WOW!! IS THAT A POWER BRAKE BOOSTER and a POWER STEERING PUMP??"

I think I found a keeper.

Welcome, nice car, I love your term clone runner for your road runner wanna be
