Hello! Someone suggested I introduce myself as a new member. I'm Scott form Chico; I found this site through StitcherBob when he shared a link on another site. I own a '70 Newport Convertible which I purchased from the second owner in September, 2003. He had bought the car at an estate sale a year earlier and really didn't know what to do with it.

Sometime in its life it sat outside for about ten years with a rotted top. That has left the car with a number of issues. It was also repainted from its original "Platinum Metallic" to the hideous green it currently has. Some people love the color; I do not. But, until I can afford to paint it it shall remain. Ha!

Leaving the factory a 383 2bbl car, the original owner would not buy it unless the dealer, Chrysler of North Hollywood, would drop a 440 in it. That was on August 31, 1971. Yes, it sat on the lot for a year. It has a '71 440 in it. IMG_6604a.jpg
The '73 Gremlin X next to it is my son's car. It has an AMC 401 (now 407) and T-10 transmission, with a Mopar A Body 8.75 rear, 3.23 sure grip.

Welcome. Up in Chico? Well there are a few around in the greater Northern California. Just a few.

Now who would change from a very nice and less seen color over to green when you could buy it that way?

Welcome to the site from the Motor City!

Good to see you again, Snotty. Been awhile and glad you dropped in.
I heard you had it up for sale awhile back but, gladly, it looks you you held onto it.
Still trading brake work for shrimp? Lol.

PS, I see the monster Rambler there in the background.

It sat outside for some ten years; the original owner painted it that color. However, according to the 1970 Chrysler brochure, that color was not available in that year. "Lime Green Metallic" was the only green and this is that avocado that was so popular on many Mopars.

Yes! That was the only show my Son and I have been able to attend together here in Chico. He is still living in So. Cal.; the Grem is here with me.

Was thinking about selling the Newport if I bought a new Challenger this year, which was my hope. Hope was dashed. :BangHead:

Anything BUT his soul. :D

HA!! Yes, I still do brake jobs for dinner. Supposed to do another soon once the woman buys her parts. That's something I learned coming here - small town means sometimes you have to wait two weeks for parts. So, I have the people get the parts first as I don't want their cars in my garage for two weeks. Didn't think I would miss Bakersfield; I was wrong!

Bout time you made it here Scott!

Thanks Chris! Jerry is about ready to take the Gremlin to So. Cal as he is looking at renting a home with a garage. He also just received a BIG raise in addition to the commission he gets on sales (Exercise Equipment, "Total Body Fitness"). I told him, "Good, not you can have Chris paint the Grem!" It would be a lot closer to you as well. Ha!

Welcome and nice car! :)

A Newport convertible with a 440. :) I kinda like the green that's on it. I'm not familiar with the Platinum color at all, but I actually like the later KJ6 Avacado Gold color from '74 or so.

Is this the car in the YouTube video with the 300H?

If you are talking about the following video, yes. This was taken before I moved to Chico. Since then my friend Steve sold his 300.

Just noticed this in your response. It's an original 383, 2bbl car. The original owner would not buy it unless they dropped a 440 in it. He was trading in a '66 300 with a 383 and he never liked the power of that car. That was on August 31, 1971. I guess after the can sat on their lot for a year they were willing to meet this guy's demands. Ha!

I have the original paperwork, bill of sale, and other items. I display a copy of them when I show the car. While at the show in the picture below, the widow of the original salesman saw my car and saw her husband's name on the paperwork. Small world! I was not by the car and she did not return. Would love to have met her.
