Hello everyone, new member here. Just bought a 1978 NYB, some of you have probably seen the ad on Kijiji or Hemmings. Got a decent deal, will pick it up in August. Just starting out in collector cars, and I come from a line of Chrysler guys. My paternal grandfather had a 1976 Newport Custom, maternal grandfather had a 1980 New Yorker Fifth Avenue (among other Chryslers over the years). Guess the 1978 is like meeting them half way.

The seller was the original owner, and has the original order sheet from dealer. The car was used for two years here in Alberta (little to no road salt in winter) and then stored away for 35 years. Less than 26000 kilometers on it, and it starts right up just like it was on the road yesterday. He has started it from time to time every year that it has been in storage. All original, except he has "had the sides painted to fix parking lot dings". Checked the rockers, the trunk wells, rear fenders - no rust apparent at all.

I look forward to learning and sharing with everyone as this project goes on.

To the pics:

Welcome and what a fine score that is!!
Do the wipers and the A/C work?

For the rest of us, here's the link to the Hemmings article.
It's a great story.

Description:1978 New Yorker, one owner, like new, 15,000 miles; parked 35 years, power everything.
I bought the car because it was the last of the 4 door hard tops. I believe the four door hardtops (no center posts) will someday be a collector item like the two door cars are today. I had the car under coated, including inside the doors. There was a 3M treatment applied to the lower part fenders and doors to prevent rock chipping. It was my wife's car—go to church, go to Safeway etc, Then my daughter started to drive and she was having problems with a large car, so I bought a smaller car for both of them. The New Yorker was stored on blocks. I start the car ever spring and warm it up. I had to buy the trailer package in order to get the lean burn 440 engine. The trailer package is in a envelop in the trunk. I ran the car in my son's wedding, and while it was out of storage, I had the sides painted to remove some parking lot dings. I was planning on keeping the car for ever. I did not consider the father time factor.
I am now 83 and there is no one in the family that is interested in old cars-so they must go. There is an extra set of wheels with winter tires. If a person is not an old car lover ,then he could put on the winter tires and have a real cheap winter beater that will really plow snow.
The car is like new---look at the pictures---look at the thresholds, look in the trunk and under the fenders---no rock chips.

Sure, I will post a couple of pics I took myself the other day when I looked at the car. It was pretty dark in the shed, hopefully these will be legible enough. It appears from the door tag that the car was built on May 31 1978, which was a Wednesday. Maybe it will be "well built" compared to Monday or Friday cars? And yes, Lean Burn is intact, and he believes he has an extra computer stashed away that he got at a wreckers. I still am leaning towards a replacement on that issue though.

Oh, the wipers and A/C - didn't try the wipers, as he didn't remove 100% of the cover and I figure they will likely be a problem in any case (from what I understand about the cam issue - maybe I'll luck out and they'll work for a while). The a/c was on when we started the car, and there is enough charge to kick the compressor in. It didn't feel overwhelmingly cold, blower was working though. We only ran the car for a few minutes since it was parked inside. Everything I touched operated, although I didn't try the 8 track - even though the Sounds of Stereo tape is still in the glovebox.
