New Seat Belts

Do you mean this part of the front belts?
Yes, exactly. On my car, the belt on the left side comes from the right side of the driveshaft tunnel, and vice versa. Also, because the buckle is the center belt, it's thick enough that I can't get it easily through the gap between the seat and the base.

Is that how yours were set up originally? Before I fight with mine, I thought I'd see how they are supposed to be installed.

I can't say for sure how the belts were routed because the previous restoration expert left them out and installed them into a cardboard box! LOL!!.

I believe yours are installed incorrectly. (or they got pulled to the wrong side when the driver & passenger were fighting over which belt was which...:D)

Let's imagine your car has bucket seats.

It has a console as well.

There is no way in the world that any installer would try to cross over the console just to install the drivers' belt on the right side of the DS tunnel and vise versa..

So with a bench I would expect the same type of installation.
Driver's side goes on the left DS tunnel mount and the same for the passenger side.

Yup!

Other things to keep in mind,
Center belts share the two bolts on the tunnel.
Those bolts are different and have a longer shoulder.
The head of the bold should not lock down on the belt end.

I understand that comment Alan but the carpet in this case is preventing the connector from swiveling,

It may have been designed with vinyl flooring in mind...

That might be true but soon as it is needed it will move, that is what's important.

On a side note, a good way to put the holes through the carpet is with an old soldier iron from the bottom (same for the seats).

My 66 Polara had four seat belts in it. I saw this thread a few weeks ago and ordered six white ones from the vendor mentioned here to go with my modified interior. Installed them over the weekend. I'll post pics for you guys. I'm very happy though I'm sure they won't stay white for long.

The release buckle is always on the right.
Clip on the left.
Right handed people outweighed the left thanded.
Sorry.

Just like scissors.

My original seat belts were mirrored. The clasp on the right for the driver and on the left for the passenger. The insert end lays on the floor between door and seat.

Thanks to Mr. Fix It for starting this thread and finding the vendor. A couple of notes:

The car came with four lap belts. The main thing I wanted to do was have six because that's how many ride when my whole family is aboard. The old ones were a light blue, somewhat matching the interior. Obviously I wasn't going to get two new ones of a different color so I needed to buy all six. I didn't trust the color samples on the website (there's a lot of different shades of blue already going on inside the car so I went with white despite the fact that they aren't going to stay white for long.

Also, on placement. The original owner's manual says the seat belts should be "crossed". In other words the latch mechanism closest to the passenger is for the driver and vice versa. With six seat belts it's a little more complicated. You're always going to have two of the latching mechanisms right next to each other. Still I suspect the best way is for the belts to "cross over".

Very happy with the end result.

And that's why a 15 minute thermostat change turns into a day's work.

I just edited this to remove a totally wrong post about how mine are crossed and that seems to make some sense. I decided just to look at the FSM. It's interesting for a couple reasons. First, not-crossed is proper for '67.

Second is how little people cared about seatbelts in '67. The sum total of the instruction in the manual is, "refer to figures 43-45 for information on installing seatbelts."

Third is why on earth I didn't just look that up when I had a question, rather than putting it off. At least it didn't spell out the answer to my captive nut question. Then I would have felt really stupid!
