this is fully restored sedan new Yorker and is in excellent shape spotless / it has AC /power window/power steering/factory radio /black license plate and I am second owner and prior owner is the first owner and is alive and I am relative of her. this car has more than $13000 dollars invested in and is vintage category . the reason of selling is not having enough room in my garage and I do not want to continue paying for storage. this car runs smoother than a lots of new car and is excellent for weekend joy

Wonder where that black "A" plate came from? Most 64's have C & D and most 65's have D,E & some F. That would be a 63 plate from the first year.

This is a nice looking car (it was for sale a year an a half ago). The seats have been redone and the paint is very nice (had two minor scratches).

However, the seller's story about how his aunt owned it sounded fishy. I found an old registration in the glovebox from a "Jaime Garcia". The seller is Persian so I doubt that Jaime is his aunt. Also, he has no documentation for any work done prior to when he paid about $1K to get it roadworthy (brakes, etc.). No paperwork from his "aunt".

The reality is a 63/64 could have a plate into the R as the mass issuing of plates in 63 used up everything up to R.
Initially stacks of plates were sent out to the area DMV offices so for that range you might be able to tell what office a set of plates came out of.

I would not expect to see an A plate on anything but a 64 or older car ( a new 64 could have been caught up in the mass issue of plates)

Most likely YOM

By 65 they would most like be about S or T

My 65 was issued an M plate

Some offices didn't go through their initial shipment as fast and an M plate could easily have been seen on a 65.

My numbers are based on an average, I have seen others but never newer than 65, by 66 pretty much every office used up that initial shipment and were already getting more plates.

Everything through R were shipped out in 63 to the offices.

I knew it wasn't right for 1965 so I went to Craigslist and looked at 1965 cars with black plates. A lot of them were around F while my 67 has a U. Therefore I figured a 65 had to be at least F or higher. Unless this car was bought in some super out of the way and underpopulated California county where they only issued 10 plates a year.

Or maybe a box of plates got stuck in a corner and wasn't found for a few years when the DMV office did renovations?????????

I personally feel this car has a Year of Manufacture plate on it. I could see some fluff in the distribution but not this much.

The last registration with have the $10 fee
