We're are you located I'm in socal maybe I can look for you it's a bit of a drive for me but based on the pics it looks all there. I bought 66 fury from Washington just based on pics and shipped it to me and it was best decision I ever made gotta catch that price while it's there like I said before 3500 is a steal.

sorry, i avoid socal media like the plague.

I have bought at distance many times, and shipped cross country, across oceans, etc. . age of this one, places they tend to have "issues", in relation to asking price, for me anyway, .necessitates hands on literally.

plus, using the best digital camera ever created. human eye.

I will call them and see, however, if they can get me some pics of a couple specific things and then go from there.

Anybody have any experience with a "lien packet". I do not.

My understanding is a towing/recovery company "has" a vehicle, for which there is a debt owed TO the towing company, that towing company can attach a lien ('ownership claim") TO that vehicle.

Then, subject to rules of the local jurisdiction, the towing company can sell that vehicle to satisfy the debt they are owed, and whoever the real owner is/was, they just lost their vehicle in exchange for the debt.

LSS, maybe these "lien sales" are a no-brainer. To me? feels like they could be messy and I personally don't like potential ownership messes. Never have.

Ain't a car made/existing (except my "Yeti" - '70 A67 440 Newport ) i am willing to jump through title hoops for.

Of course, its "case-by-case". "Smooth as silk" on one end of the spectrum, to "dumpster fire" on the other end.

Again, anyone have a view/experience with these things, particularly with California, as a buyer of such a vehicle?

Probably your best bet is to check with your states DMV and ask them. I think it would be easy to get it titled in California but not sure in other states.

I bought a ‘71 Newyorker with a lien sale packet this year in California. I’d say it was the biggest pain in the rear I’d ever had gone through in regards to titling a car.

I did eventually title and tag the car in CA. You do not have to be a resident to do it.

It seemed straight forward so I went out to CA to pick up another car I had bought and to take care of the lien sale paperwork on the Chrysler… One DMV said that the VIN had to be verified and that they could do it but I was required to bring the car to them. I obtained a temporary driving permit from that office.

I got to the car which hasn’t been on the road since the 1990s I’d guess. I fixed the car good enough go to be somewhat drivable and then drove it to closest DMV 20 mins away. After waiting around for a while it was my turn and they had me pull the car around so they could inspect it. Turns out the car wasn’t in their system and unless I could find any documents in the car that showed the year they wouldn’t do the verification. Of course me explaining the VIN and showing them the build date in the door wasn’t enough. I couldn’t find any old registrations or anything with the cars year on it after digging through the car. They said the CHP would have to inspect the car. Well the CHP was booked for months. I was leaving the next day and pleaded my case to the officer and he worked me in. I had to drive this barely driving car back to the town I was originally at to the local CHP office. It was a long wait while he dug all over inside and out. He did verify the car was what it was and I then went back to the DMV and they refused the paperwork. Long story short I had to drive back and forth between the DMV and the CHP office a few times and finally I was able to get it sorted and got my new tags and the title eventually was delivered to my house.

This was my experience in California… I honestly have no idea what would have happened back here in NC. I figured I’d best take care of it out there just in case something happened. There’s a lot of forms and documents in the packet and you don’t want to screw it up.

Would I recommend buying a car with lien sale paperwork? No.

Maybe my case was a bit different than most but if there’s a next time I’d tell whoever is selling the car to get the title in their name and save me the trouble/risk.

Your experience is what I imagined. they (lien package deals) may not all go that way -- some better or some unfortunately not as "easy" (so to speak) as yours.

i called the outfit with the car. Nice enough folks, but kind of "what you see is what you get" as to more pics.

again, not rude, but not eager to crawl around to get pics for me -- even though i explained i was 3,000 miles away. didnt get the impression they wanna get a title either.

all that to say, i dont think this old Newp has my name on it. i gotta have a title, even for stuff i ultimately have to scrap.

anyway, thats how it goes. hope it gets saved as there surely cant be many left.
