Nick!

No, it's really different. There is much more emphasis on certification and training through outside sources.

When I got out of high school, I apprenticed as a Tool & Diemaker (quite proud of that) and what I see now as something a senior guy would sign off on (we had blue books) is now a certificate from XYZ in the guys training folder. In your case, there is still hours worked etc, and that's good.
Yeah it's totally different up here, I have a book my Boss signs as I "Master" jobs, They account that and my hours towards my license, they take the school hours and add those to my OJT, and then I can write for my license.

Nick at our place we start guys as paid co-ops through the local colleges. Only after they complete 2 work terms with satisfactory performance and work habits and graduate do we hire them full time. A condition of employment is completion of their C of Q. There are a lot of hours and demonstrated performance thresholds before they achieve the full rate. Its a win-win for employer and student. Students pays for his tuition while we figure out if we have a good candidate for permanent employment,

Did not get that with truck driving " Hi nice to meet you here's you truck keys are in it here a log book mark a line whatever your doing see you fri."

I didn't get even a "Hi nice to meet you".
I was given the paperwork and I said "how do I get there?" and the dispatcher growled back "in your F@@@@@G truck. And don't forget the trailer. Call when you're empty"
