I guess we won't see any more on ebay.

NEW YORK (AP) — Big retailers said they would start to pull Confederate flags, and merchandise bearing the flag, from their store shelves and websites this week. The announcements come as debate over the flag's symbolism was reignited following last week's shooting deaths of nine black church members in South Carolina. These retailers have announced bans of the flag and related items:
— Wal-Mart Stores Inc.
— Amazon.com Inc.
— Sears Holdings Corp.
EBay Inc.
— Etsy Inc.
—Target Corp.
— Spencer Gifts

Then I guess I need to hang mine back up on the house........It is not a symbol of hate but rather a country and part of American heritage.

I cant get into this topic......... America is dead

I heard on am radio today that they are considering putting the rainbow flag on the general lee car on the Dukes of hazard tv show, I'm not joking. They can mute the picture of the the flag on the car and install what ever they want and the station that airs it will decide weather it is acceptable or not. ??? It was on wspd 1370 about noon

Might as well change the car to a prius while they're at it...

Just a bunch of politicians engaging in their normal BS. It's going to backfire and you will see more of them than you ever did.

So what the PC police are saying is that if that symbol is abolished there will be no inspiration for another nut job? Those retailers are telling us more about themselves than any one else.

If you like the flag you're a racist.

That's what they are saying.

When I read on the net earlier today that Wal-Mart and other retailers were pulling the flag merchandise, I found myself wondering about The Dukes of Hazzard and if it meant that the movie and the TV shows wouldn't be allowed to be shown anymore.

Political Correctness wins again. :(

I'm surprised that a rainbow flag isn't a factory paint option for a Prius. :laughing4:

This PC crap has got to stop! It's ruining this nation! The Confederate Flag is a part of our history. Get over it already.

More bullshit different day I say we put Confederate flags on our hoods go to the Walmart parking lot and protest.

It is quite blatantly a symbol of hate. The Dukes of Hazzard version is the sanitized version many know of but the version I know of is completely different from a different decade. When I see it I see George Wallace standing in front of it while denouncing desegregation. I see a KKK member holding it and taunting blacks with it. I see the march in Selma with counter protestors waving the flag in the faces of the marchers. That is my memory of it. That was Southern Pride all right. That was Southern Heritage all right. That was what the powers that be in the south really used it for while the poor white Southern boy thought he was fighting for his state. Nothing against the poor soldier but they were used to preserve the power and wealth of the Southern Plantation owner. What else is new.

Southern Pride = Southern Heritage = Southern Plantation owners = Southern Economy = Slavery

A pretty basic flow chart working in either direction.

It should be banned from government locations and publicly funded institutions. Privately, fly it all you want as people will know what you are talking about. Businesses, are obviously making their decisions based on marketing and their profits. Something all businesses do right down to skimping on a car part to save money yet results in the death of consumers. Nothing new there either.

Finally many say it stood for state's right. Yep, and that meant the state's right to have slaves and expand it to other states if possible. Think of the Nebraska-Kansas Act.

Unfortunately, the workhouses and sweatshops of the north were a far worse form of slavery than the southern slaves ever had to endure. People don't ever seem to use basic common sense or bother educating themselves with facts. Ever hear of the crusades? Should we ban the Christian/Catholic cross?

I am not American, but have visited the US many times. MyMother lived there for 5 years in the '60s (arriving in late '62 during theCuban Missile Crisis). I am quite the fan of numerous American products; namelymusic, film and of course, cars.

So, to that end, I was first introduced to the Confederate Flag in the '80s,watching The Dukes of Hazzard (as many non-Americans were during this period). Then as a teen in the '90s, I discovered Lynyrd Skynyrd, who are now one of myfavourite bands of all time. Skynyrd used the flag as their stage backdropduring the 1970s. I am pretty sure the makers of both The Dukes and the membersof Lynyrd Skynyrd are no racists (listen to The Ballad of Curtis Lowe fromSecond Helping as evidence), c'mon now. It was used as a symbol of pride, inbeing Southern (is this a fair statement to make?).

BTW, Interesting related article:
http://www.theguardian.com/music/2015/jun/23/country-music-confederate-flag-south-race

To me (pardon my naiveté here) it simply symbolized a rebel,or one of rebellious nature. Back home, it is even flown at Gaelic sportingmatches (football and hurling) by County Cork supporters, for a couple ofreasons:

1. Their county colours are red and white - both containedin the Confederate Flag
2. They classify themselves as "The Rebel County"(I always thought it was cool when I spotted one at the televised matches"Hell, the mad bastards even fly the Japanese flag too).

But, seeing as PC expands to all parts of the world in thisday and age quite rapidly, it has generated controversy there too:

No easy discussion topic, but there are now more articles onthe web over this topic than ever before, and I think some interesting viewpoints, from both Black and White people in the United States of America.
Just a couple of random thoughts here....

Nobody had chains on the workers in the north quit, change careers, whatever, if you stayed it was your choice, also nobody was selling your sister or brother, that is a stupid statement. Yes the Catholic Cross should be banned from govt buildings it is called separation of church and state. Want to know who to vote for in 2016? Someone who is not waving their religion around, believe what you want but don't dump it on my doorstep.

Separation of church and state is NOWHERE in the US Constitution. Important thing to remember. What it DOES say is that the State shall not establish a State-run religion, like the Church of England.

The US Constitution: http://constitutionus.com/

The First Amendment of the Bill of Rights:

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
