No more General Lees

Sorry guys I've been busy helping the neighbors wife. Put me up to date please

Knee jerk reactions pull confederate flags from large retailers. (on line sales go up)
American Civics lesson taught by Canadian.
Guys don't want to pray.

Usual stuff.....

Obviously, society and culture over time.

What was at one time, perfectly acceptable socially, culturally, politically and legal, changes for better or worse.

250 years from now, what you take as routine and perfectly fine, will be vilified just as we do now with slavery. YOUR actions, and way of 'backward' thinking, will make YOU the evil person as defined by a totally new culture and line of thought.

Laws change over time.

Rights, as defined as coming from nature by the founders, do not.
If you rely on a Government to grant you a right, you accede to a Government the ability to take it away.
Agreed. Current governments also like to put interpretations on previously enacted laws laws which is why you need an independent judiciary. The issue with the flag is a constitutional one related to freedom of expression. (Somehow we got onto religion LOL). In a democracy every idea should rise or fall on it's merits and not on the basis of what is good for Walmart is good for the country.

The southern states that seceded from the Union did so because they were under-represented in congress and were the victims of over taxation on cotton, tobacco, whiskey and slaves etc whereas the more densely populated northern states were not. (And, yes, the northern federal states had slaves also but not as prominent and or documented). The federal government enacted laws that endangered their livelyhood, culture and way of life, and there were laws that some of the states didn't believe the federal government should be able to make (i.e. laws that should be delegated to state authority). For many years, they fought these laws, but because of their low population density, they got little representation in the house, and even less in the senate. When president Lincoln was elected, the southern states knew they no longer had any hope in preserving their way of life in the United States, so they created their own country, which was promptly invaded by the United States and the civil war began. Try to remember that the Emancipation Proclamation didn't happen until 3years after the civil war started. So, obviously, slavery wasn't exactly the main issue. Anyone that thinks the confederate flag is a racist symbol is an imbecile and should be ignored like two fleas copulating on the surface of saturn. I'm so disgusted with know-nothings pissing and moaning after watching the last episode of Jerry Springer and getting all up in arms over fiction. Just so ya'll know, the evil swastika as we all know it today was a sign of well wishing in the United States in the 1800s up to the end of WWII and Toyota Industries built tanks and Mitsubishi built planes that killed Americans less than 150 years ago. Oh, and Henry Ford was a racist and anti semite to the point that adolf hitler was willing to send his brown shirts to help him get elected president. Harry Truman was in the KKK, etc etc etc....Remember when we loved Bin Laden when Russia invaded Afganistan? Did you know George Washington owned slaves and Andrew Jackson wanted to exterminate all the indians in the United States? I'll end my tirade of facts with.....hey, if the confederate flag offends you, don't look at it, don't buy it, and don't watch the dukes of hazzard. And I won't watch illegal aliens demanding driver's licenses and rioting for such. Deal?

I'm driving my General Lee around with my flag on my roof. I don't care what they say!

Except for a caveat on the last sentence (Republic, not a Democracy. Rising and falling on merits based on popularity opens up cans of worms...), we agree. As proven by history, one will never get a truly independent, nor always logical, judiciary.
Rights, such as the concept of freedom of expression, protect the least popular ideas.

Bear in mind that liberal know-nothings have been trying to ban our old unsafe smog blowers alot lately. If people don't put their foot down, then vitamin c chargers will be "racist" etc etc etc.

It's funny how few people appreciate that concept.
I fully appreciate the concept of Freedom of Expression as long as it pertains to me personally. To hell with everyone else's rights.
Most of these symbols such as the swastika ,star of david, and many of the other symbols you see on flags are rooted in ancient pagan religions and many symbols are believed to hold certain magical properties and were used in ritual magic. To me these symbols mean nothing and I could care less whether they keep them up or not.

I'm the opposite but given your comments I'm sure you don't care.
My comment was meant as a joke. I don't actually believe that only I should have special rights and privileges and no one else. Sadly many people actually do believe that whether they are aware of it or not. As for the Confederate flag whether you're for or against it its soon to be gone and so will the stars and stripes eventually. Like every other great empire in history The United states of America will eventually crumble. I can picture in my head a thousand years in the future a class room full of students dozing off while their teacher lectures them on the rise and fall of the American empire.

Hypocrites. I've always been under the assumption that our old cars are greener than new cars anyways. It's recycling, for god sakes. How much energy does it take to create a new prius from scratch? Especially with all them friggin' batteries?

Also, back on the subject of the Dixie Flag... yes, I agree it can be construed as offensive to many people. Their south wasn't the south that the flag-wavers knew.
There are many racist folks who wave that flag as part of their rituals and shenanigans. Also, there are many non-racist folks who have it on display because it means something completely different to them. I don't recall any racial slurs or other hints dropped on the Dukes of Hazzard, for example. I believe the latter group constitute the majority BY FAR.

On a similar subject, there was an incident at a high school in Morgan Hill, CA a few years ago where students wore American flag shirts to school on 5 de mayo, and it set off a huge protest/uprising by the Latino students there. The Latinos called it "offensive" and disrespecting of Mexico. The case went all the way to the Supreme Court, and guess what....the court refused to even hear the appeal by the parents to overturn the Federal appeals court ruling, which was in favor of the school's decision to send the students home or make them turn their shirts inside out!

By the way, Cinco de Mayo is nothing more than an "American bar holiday".

And back to Hypocrisy. The PC crowd is well known to attack anything that is deemed by them to be offensive, or hypothetically offensive, while they support things that are offensive to a majority, such as smut and cussing on TV, dudes walking around naked in SF, etc... The low life's want to take control.

Sorry that I missed the joke. You are obviously a realist. I'd like to think your constitution will be a model for the future.

I don't know this for a fact but from what I've been told it costs about $5000 dollars to replace the batteries in a Toyota Prius when they go bad and they do go bad. The electric car is about the stupidest thing they ever came up with and they're still pushing it. The hybrids don't actually get the fuel economy that they claim. Diesel technology in my opinion would be a better way to go but you don't see much of a push for that in the United States.
As for your comment you made on the amount of energy it takes to produce a new car you have to take into consideration the amount of parts that are outsourced to smaller companies which in turn outsource some of their manufacturing processes to other companies. You could easily end up with a single component such as a single gear in a transmission that is shipped to 5 or 6 different small companies before it becomes a finished product and ready to install into a transmission. I would imagine allot of diesel is being consumed shipping these parts back and forth between different facilities. Nothing is made under one roof anymore. Think of the hundreds if not thousands of factories that are involved in the production of one single automobile.

The courts are wrong ... But its the system we have

Religion is the root of all evil and a way to get you to conform.

I think that all General Lees should be returned to Wal-mart and hello kitty stickers placed on the roofs.

Who ******* cares. See you in Carlisle.
