I have both turn signal lights left/right, front & back, headlights work. No, parking lights/license plate light. Fuse is good....not sure where to go now?

on some years the parking lights don't come on with the headlights. they only function when the switch is pulled to the first stop. i sure someone here knows the models and years. license light could be a bad ground from having the bumper off.

The 1968 model year was the first (on cars) where the parking lights stay ON when the headlights are turned on. The 1967 and earlier cars do NOT stay on with the headlights. The 1968 deal was a then-new Federal requirement, and applies to all 1968 and newer cars sold in the US. This affected trucks, starting in the 1970 model year.

This is where the terms "parking lights" and "driving lights" came from. It was considered impolite to have your headlights on while parking on a street or in a parking lot, so as not to shine lights in the other drivers' eyes. You use your "driving lights" on the street.

As far as the issue on your car, it sounds like a bad ground or bulb at the tag light.

Is it possible the light switch is bad? I mean, the headlights work, but when I tried to put a fuse in the block, I heard a pop, sounded like it came from the headlight switch area..make sense?

Problem resolved.

Lesson learned. Had my buddy Virgil come over to get another set of eyes on it. Now, I'm not expert by any stretch of the imagination, but have been working on "older" cars the last 15 years. I can read a wiring diagram, pretty good, know how to use a meter, blah, blah.....what I NEVER knew of thought of was to check a new fuse. I did replace the fuse last night, didn't make a difference. After 5 minutes here, Virgil says, ohm the fuse, I said it is new, and look at it, nothing wrong.....put meter on it, was bad, new fuse in, after checking first of course, lights are back. I'm sure 95% of the guys here knew that, just thought I'd share this for the 5% that might not know.

You can see the burnt area on left side of fuse...note to self, put on glasses when checking fuses.

That happens! I did the same thing when I was troubleshooting a fuse on my '68 Dodge D100 recently. Swore up and down the fuse in question was good; but once I had another set of eyeballs on it, my fuse looked just like your fuse!

My buddy's Dart had a fuse open intermittently. He had an electric fuel pump that would stop pumping at random and then restart itself. It was a tiny mechanical break where the fuse element was welded to the cap. What a booger-bear that was to find and repair. Even holding it in my hands, it Ohmed-out as good. However, if I pulled on the cap just so, it would open up electrically. Moral: Trust, but verify.
