The Valiant was regarded as a pleasant design when it came out from what I read, I could warm up a bit to the wagon, I kinda like the rear, the rest just isn't my Cup of tea.
I'd be fine with the six and the three Speed floorshift. One well known German car Journalist used to own one of them back then and promoted this Setup, a rather large engine for Europeans combined with this rather compact Body as the future concept for cars to come over here.

For some strange reason, those cars more common back in the day. I experienced many of them and I really liked them.

Is it just me? Or does this car strongly resemble the Studebaker Lark? This picture shows one with a modded bumper, but the headlights, grill, and fenders, look almost exactly the same. I also just realized I have a photo of one on the opposite side of the spectrum.

If I get my Fury sold I may pick it up. So far, I have been offered a 24’ boat and a 66 Tbird. No cash.
That Valiant looks pretty unique. So does your Lancer.

Man that wagon is no more a Mitsubishi than your Chrysler is a Peugeot!
They had an option for a center body color with a 2 tone paint code.
If so, it had a little stainless trim to separate the colors.
My wagon is monotone, WW1, but I wanted a little color splash, so I added the red.
Now this, this is a Mitsubishi!

Anyone 'sidez me see a serious money pit here????????????? and we don't do rat rodz remember? Head liner, door panels, new bunz and skins for the chairs and back seat. Complete 2 stage paint, missing t-gate latch and re-do all the stainless and pot metal trim in and out. Oh yeah, then therez the drive train? Have we crossed the 25K line yet for a selling price of Maybe $7500?

Yea, we crossed that line. But don't 99 percent of the cars we do cross that line? If you are lucky to find a buyer who wants your car real bad you might get 50-75 of your costs back. The Valiants and Lancers are not any harder than C Body cars with even fewer parts available. It's all in what you want to do, if you make money at the end you have done better than most. And if you run it through an Auction house you are going to lose your shirt! IMO.

Pick the powertrain you want, they cost what they cost.
If you can leave the "it's gotta be correct/original with Pebble Beach paint and chrome" mindset in the driveway, you might resurrect that for less than you'd expect.
The tailgate and rear glass would be my biggest concern. That one is chewed up pretty bad and no glass is visible. If the glass is flat, that can be solved reasonably but when was the last time you saw one if it's curved or the gate itself.
There used to be a company that sold universal type tuck and roll seat covers for most sizes of bench seats in basic colors for a few hundred. Headliner and carpet is pretty basic stuff and if the door panels are toast, make your own. If the shiny stuff is all there, clean it up as best it will clean and it is what it is. Earl Scheib type paint and go have fun.

I am across the line. At $10k in and haven’t started floor pans and body. $10k includes purchase price. I know the car wouldn’t sell for that.
OH YEAH? And for the drive train on that Valiant, My choice would be to stay with the leaning tower of Power only add three side draft Webers and swap out the 3 spd for a 4 spd so it would out do and out run even the Hyper-Pac. Nothing personal Hyper_Pac. I know what King Richard and 5 other "HOT SHOES" did to all comers from GM and Phord camps with their Valiant's in '60 & '61 when they finished 1 thru' 6 out of the entire field, Jer
