I have a 1969 440 block with 187 Pan, 5 inches tall. I believe the correct number based on the chart below is 2532264 for the oil pan pickup. There is one place, Hilton auto parts, which claims that 2532264 supersedes to 2899808. However, I believe 2899808 is HP, which would be a 6 inch oil pan.
Does anyone know what is the correct oil pan pickup to supersede from 2532264?
For a 5 inch pan, has anyone successfully used an aftermarket pickup? If so what is the manufacturer and part number?
My current oil pickup is bent at the threads, so the stretched threads won't let it screw all the way in. I really need to buy something else and I'd like to buy what's correct the first time. Thanks for your help! Ben. MyMopar - Mopar Forums & Information - Mopar Oil Pan Specifications
Sorry, chart didn't copy that well

Hi Anthony
Thanks for the input!!!
My understanding is that the 6 quart pan including filter is 6 inches tall. The Mancini pickup is for the 6 quart pan. Also the 440 source pickup is for a baffled pan, which I thought was limited to 6 quart.
By contrast, my 187 pan is 5 inches tall. It is a 5 quart pan including filter. My problem is that I already have the 6 quart pan pickup and it's too long for the 5 quart pan. It doesn't allow the pan to fully seat on the pan rails. (plus its bent at the threads, recycle time)
Here is what I bought for a 5 quart pan. Melling 63-S3. By Melling's catalog info below, at center tube, it's about an inch shorter than what I have, which should be OK. Hope it's right!!!

Any update on the oil pump? I am thinking of getting the Melling M63 from Mancini as well.
I built the engine, but it is not installed in car yet. Oil pump is installed, but unused. It fit fine.
Does that answer your question or are you asking about pickup too?

Pickup was more complicated, because it was both too long and too high when mounted. I believe this is only true if you have 5-quart pan. I have 187, which is 5-quart. If you have 6 quart, pickup should work well with pan.

· Used 12 point 5/8 short socket, 12 inch extension, ½ ratchet and breaker bar. Repeated following process several times: spray cutting lube on 3/8 pipe thread tap. Turn in pickup mount in block. Sometimes I went half a turn, sometimes I went a full turn, depending upon where the oil pan pickup screen was last time, whether it was sticking up vertical or horizontal as it should be. I reversed directions every quarter turn, to make sure that the tap didn’t hang up in the mount. Remove tap, wipe clean. Spray CRC brake clean in mount hole to wash down threads. Use air gun and compressed air to blow out dirt and brake cleaner. Test fit oil pan pickup. If I was able to turn it to the point that the screen side was horizontal, I then test fit the pan with the new gasket. I repeated this process for I’m guessing about 3 whole turns overall.

· When I finally got the oil pan to rest solid on top of the oil pan gasket, no longer hitting the top of the pickup, I removed the pan and gasket. I put Permatex red thread locker 27100 on the threads of the pickup and installed, using a level to make sure that the bottom of the block and the bottom of the pickup, horizontal. I then wiped off the oil pan rails, and installed the oil pan and gasket, again with Permatex red thread locker on all bolt threads. I torqued all at 200 – 200 inch-pounds, ½ short socket, 12 inch extension, 3/8 torque wrench. I used 20 trans pan mounting bolts, because the threads were slightly longer and the washers were much larger. I am hoping for leak free operation.

Good work!

Thank you! Your first paragraph covers it for me as I’m not changing the oil pickup. For anyone who does, Though, your other details will be most helpful.
