Ok asking on this forum because the forum for my other toy car no one really talks on and there seems to be so many people with real engine experiance.

So in my 68 I run 15w40 rotella since it has the highest levels of zinc as well as a zinc substute additive (as told to do by my engine builder). Its been talked about in length in the past however...

My 1985 renault is due for a oil change. Being such a tiny motor I am going to run the 10w30 but should it also get zinc additive? I would assume in the 80s there was still zinc for the cams. Does it matter that it is a OHC?

Just wondering any one with a 80s car is also using zinc. Should I even bother?

Also this car runs really high RPM. To maintain 70mph which is the speed limit here I really have to push this little car. Should I run a thicker oil, or something with better protection? Gong slower is not an option people get really aggressive if you dont atleast go the limit.

Thanks!!

Does the engine have a lot of miles on it? If it has some age on it, I would run the Rotella in it too.

What kind of valve train, roller or conventional? If it is roller, I'd just run whatever you are using now.

Synthetic is also an option.

I have always used a can of STP with every oil change and have never ever a had problem with any vehicle, new or used.

Little car only has 52k on it. Wouldn't the 15w40 rotella be to heavy for such a small motor? I don't car about fuel mileage. The motor is all stock, never been apart. Just a 1.7l @77hp. I can see the cam in the valve cover, doubt any type of roller motor. I was just concerned about cam wear with no zinc anymore. Finding any parts for this motor would be impossible. I just want to make it last as long as possible. The zinc additive couldn't hurt right?
