OK guys you are up. This fall I am coming over there and am wondering:
#1 - what is the weather usually like the first half of November
#2 - recommended sights between Amsterdam and Rome ( I will have about 10 days)
#3 - any recommended car rental companies and any to stay away from ( I want to rent one way to drop off in Rome)

You're a funny guy....

Thank God for van der Laan

I seel Prix Special is on the menu today.

As far as I know, my relatives usually used a Sixt rental car. As for weather hard to say rarely snow at least in my area in November, but no guarantee. If you stop in s/w Germany on your way I could work something out, if interested in a large technical/car museum with some military exhibition as well.

What do you consider SW Germany? I will be visiting some relatives in Landshut outside of Munich.

We had a great trip to Germany in 2011. I heard Sixt rental is the best and you might want to rent a diesel if you don't want to spend a lot on gas. We had a great trip.

Thanks for all the links. The weather there may be a bit cool at that time and I would rather go earlier in the year, but we have booked back to back cruises out of Rome starting on Nov 18 and ending in Ft Lauderdale Dec 15. We are hoping not to get much snow on our trek across the Alps though.

Further up north, you could take it into consideration if you pass by on your way to Munich.

There's another one in that area, very "old school" with mostly unrestored technical stuff out of different centuries, would have to make sure if they're open, it's family owned and run mostly by one person. It's what an American pictures if you would talk about a museum right in the Black Forest. Most interesting, if the rest of your traveling family has some interest as well.

I'm having flashbacks..........

A must see in Bavarian Alps is Oberammegau. They hold the Passion Play there every 10 years. A very historic play and very big in the German culture. It is also a city filled with wood carvers....so if you're looking for a cuckoo clocks and other spectacular wood carvings, you'll have to go there.

This is a very informative website with maps and things to see in Bavaria...

I was stationed in Germany for the 3rd time in Augsburg from 1984-1992 (I had to go Desert Storm in 1990-91 then back to Augsburg). Augsburg was hands down the best place I ever was stationed. Every weekend I had free I was going somewhere. I had a great time!!!!

Stay tuned for more flashbacks. LOL!

Halfway between Augsburg and Munich is a beautiful place where there is a huge festival... Kaltenberg Knights Tournament. I even took my Mom and kid brother there in 1989 and I found a poster I have for it. It's great.....you can walk around and see the 1000 people in costume and character, see the animals, see jousting, sword fights, damsels in distress, great period food. Only problem is that it's in July.
