OK you truckers...

It would be interesting to do this test with todays trucks with the latest technology to see if the results would be different. Anybody who drives on the interstates knows damn well NO trucks drive anywhere near 55 today.
Almost every new truck that is part of a company's fleet is governed at some rediculous low speed like 67 mph plus or minus. Just last night I was driving on a long empty section of a two lane devided highway with a posted 65mph limit.
I was stuck for miles behind two trucks in both lanes. They were fleet trucks.
One was maxed out at 67 and the other one trying to pass him was governed at 68. I can recognize these things.
You can't believe the frustration being stuck behind them for eternity.

Not out here in the west. Speed limits are all 75-80 on the interstates and the trucks are keeping up just fine.

Stan My Friend. That'z when you find out how tough your steering wheel construction iz and where you rate in the "Gater Jaw" strength test by how deep your bite markz are, lol

Look at the trucks in the slow lane. Fleets.
Look at the trucks doing 75. Owner operators.

The only time I saw over 67 was coming down a 14% grade and kicking it into Neutral with 45,000 in the box.
Then the next day I would get disciplined for using Jewish Overdrive because of the data logger.

Other than California there are no slow lanes out here!

Uh dont confuse free America with the other western states. We are 55 for trucks 65 for cars. We have a 100 mile stretch of two lane freeway and the trucks will use 8 miles to pass only to find out that when they are pushing the air the other is running up his ***. So whats he to do? You got it use up 8 miles to pass him back.

And I had to do everything to keep from going over 90 in the Ram. Only a few trucks slowed me down, but it was that 67/68 mph drag race each time.

Your city is world headquarters for one of the largest, and worst offenders. They are just so slow that you don't even notice them. Never met a SWIFT driver that has a clue as to what the hell they are doing, truly amazing the company is still around. If they are not in a daze they are just the most ignorant DHs you will ever meet.
Most of those company drivers will ride along side each other at 28 mph up a hill, not passing, forcing the rest of us to get a bad rap for being out in the hammer lane (not usually allowed on hills), only illegal if you get caught.
I never did so much speeding as when I was stuck in a 70 mph truck. 45, 55, 65 was always 70 mph stuck to the floor. Glad that's behind me for the last time.

Yes Swift is based here, in fact they have a huge training facility near me. Funny thing is I almost never see swift trucks on the road here anymore. Used to be they were all over the place. Now all I see are Amazon, Walmart, Fed Ex and UPS trucks. On a side note Jerry Moyes the founder of Swift lives in a huge house not far from me.

Maybe they should start PAYING their driver's!
Fixed it for you.

All the regulations and driver controls will do no good if the driver can walk or get fired and go down the street and make the same money. If they paid well and a driver has something to lose the attitude will improve. These companies spend big bucks on cameras outside and inside the trucks with anytime access, data logging (throttle percent, brake pressures, quick steering inputs), satallite tracking, never a thought if we just price the driver out of leaving they will not need to watch them every second.
I should not say " never a thought" they probably have thought it, but it is not their business model. Their business model is driver grinder, throw them in, use them up, grab the next one in line. You get what you pay for.

Most companies don't pay their employees what they should, not just truckers. It would definitely help in keeping quality workers. My former employer just promoted someone who had never done my job, and they are paying them more than I made. So much for 10 years experience.

Yes, agreed.
Problem with trucking over a stationary plant, office, warehouse, garage, etc. is workers have to come to your place of business. Once the pool of practical commuting people is used up the company has a problem finding "new meat". OTR trucking you don't have to live anywhere near a terminal, basically anywhere along their lanes of travel is, and not even that if your okay with never going home. Basically there is a never ending supply of cheap inexperienced drivers everywhere.
If you do find yourself running low on drivers you can always recruit from other countries.

The whole driving industry has gone to **** and the driver situation has hit rock bottom. I saw it coming when I retired and I've seen it come true.
And it will get worse.

FWIW, I noticed that around here, diesel fuel is much cheaper than gasoline!
I have never seen that before in my life.
What happened???

Around here diesel was always cheaper than gas by about 15% until about 8-10 years ago, and pricing has been fairly equal since.

They raised the gasoline tax? It's still higher here.
It's a barely skilled job at this point. I'll be glad when the big companies switch to driverless trucks, they have deeper pockets than the shlub behind the wheel that could not save 2 nickels if his life depended on it.
They will have no one to blame the accident on but their own mistakes and greed.

I wonder if a CDL is required since it has air brakes......unless it's considered a RV or a motor home which don't require a CDL???
