Oh yeah... Amy is a real winner
Tough choice. It's worthy of either one.
I have 12 months experience with Swift
So Yes I had resend experience.
I did not read the article just going off the excerpts you list here. This happens all the time with lease purchase payments. It will not stop because you will always have losers that are down on their luck looking for a way to dig out without doing any digging. What it boils down to is people taking advantage of others and the system. These companies lease a person a truck at a profit over what they paid for it. The truck is rough and put away wet from the last lease driver and if you manage to keep it alive well into the lease before it blows up all that money is gone. The driver is a independent contractor so the companies owes them nothing, like unemployment, Cobra med insurance, vacation, etc.. Most that get talked into these deals have trouble budgeting their money in the first place, so no surprise when they can't budget the truck and their money.I dunno about the Teamsters angle fully but I get the gist of your comment nonetheless. Promises made and not kept -- lotta stuff like that in other industries has happened and others percolating ..
So then this USA today thing is about the worst thing I have ever seen -- in America -- in 2017 no less. Seems like its localized to California port drivers (who do go all over the country)? If so, could be why I havent heard of it .. and I keep up with stuff too. Geez.
Article Excerpts:
- Trucking companies force drivers to work against their will – up to 20 hours a day – by threatening to take their trucks and keep the money they paid toward buying them.
- Bosses create a culture of fear by firing drivers, suspending them without pay or reassigning them the lowest-paying routes.
- To keep drivers working, managers at a few companies have physically barred them from going home.
- Employers charge not just for truck leases but for a host of other expenses, including hundreds of dollars a month for insurance and diesel fuel.
- Drivers at many companies say they had no choice but to break federal safety laws that limit truckers to 11 hours on the road each day. Drivers at Pacific 9 Transportation testified that their managers dispatched truckers up to 20 hours a day, then wouldn’t pay them until drivers falsified inspection reports that track hours.
- Many drivers thought they were paying into their truck like a mortgage. Instead, when they lost their job, they discovered they also lost their truck, along with everything they’d paid toward it.
On the basis of two sides to EVERY story .. love to hear what Amazon, Costco, WalMart, et al. have got to say about this.
- Retailers could refuse to allow companies with labor violations to truck their goods. Instead they’ve let shipping and logistics contractors hire the lowest bidder, while lobbying on behalf of trucking companies in Sacramento and Washington D.C.
Very carefully!

[QUOTE="70bigblockdodge, post: 494970, member: 1739"... the difference is pennies on the rate between carriers...
Just like the progressive shift they had about 10 years ago. The truck only goes to 1500 on the low side of the trans, now it just shifts for youDave, I think you can answer this question in as much as my fat butt hasn't stunk up a seat in 10 years now.
The major road through BFCounty is a busy truck route with a traffic light every 100 ft. so I see a lot of stop n go. I also see a huge majority of the $0.28/mi. fleets using automatics now. I notice that these auto equipped trucks are excruciatingly slow when accelerating from a dead stop. And it's not because of weight.
Are these new auto equipped trucks programmed like this? Other vehicles are already hitting the brakes for the next stop light and these trucks are just pulling thru the intersection. Barely. WTF??? By the way, these muthafgiggan asswipes are usually in the outside lane.
I understand that. What I'm thinking is, are these new trucks with automatics, while seeking the 10mpg holy grail, purposely throttled back (power-wise) by the computer during acceleration.Just like the progressive shift they had about 10 years ago. Wow... Someone that refuses a pee test is using something that they don't want you to know about. Pretty simple stuff... Drive a truck, expect to be tested.
A new event at the truck rodeo?
