Listening to this self proclaimed "old school trucker" kid has me shaking my head. All those little quips and gear he describes as old school are actually what defined a Billybigrigger/supertrucker from my time.

Change of pace from that terrible singing lesson, what would it cost to overhaul a truck that has been sitting for a long, long time? KW COE Aerodyne. Don't have any more details yet, plan on getting some soon.
You need to fill in some gaps first Pal. Cummings, Cat, or Detroit engine? In frame Major or out of frame? Who's going to do the labor? You or hire it out? The Price Range used to run between 5K and close to 20K factoring in the different variables, but those #s are 30-35 yearz old. You need one of our still active Big Riggerz to chime in here 'cuz I've been retired since '94, lol. Jer
I don't know the specifics, it's where I have a parts car. I never climbed in it or anything, just walked by it, and wondered... I don't know squat about a big rig, other than it's big, has many gears, and I've loved them since I was eight. I'll get more info and ask again. I'm sure it's more than I'd be able to afford, but it would be fun, I think. I'm sure the stepson would help out, he's got a couple trucks of his own.

As far as the engine goes, it's amazing how completely worn out they can be and still run decent. If this is just going to be a play toy for truck shows and cruise nights, if it will start with no fuss and runs on all 6 or 8 as the case may be, I'd roll a set of rod and main bearings into it, tune it up and call it good. With new bearings in it, anything else that might go wrong with it won't put a hole in the block so it will be repairable.
Cost? Parts probably $500 +/- and 8-10 hours labour for the bearings, 2-3 more for the valves and injectors top set depending on what engine and who's doing it.
I would recommend paying the dealership ransom for the bearing roll in just for the warranty aspect. If Cletus down the road does it for $250 plus parts and beer and it spins a rod bearing, you're screwed.

Cost depends on how far you are wanting to go with fixing it up. Hopefully it was parked due to a lack of need vs mechanical failure and hasn't been picked apart. Like Kevin said, if it will fire up and run a set of rod and main bearings for peace of mind and the engine should be good. Any luck it will have a Cummins in it. Parts are cheap and readily available. If it will run and move it should be pretty reasonable to get going. A couple grand with some elbow grease should take care of the engine and get some decent rubber on it.

It's Not Going to Shift Itself
3400HP. I wonder what the torque is at.
Follow up to my chase of the KW COE. Not an Aerodyne as I thought. Original owner sold it to a cousin and he or some other cousin put gas in it and scatter the bottom end. The owners son bought it and is planning a rebuild of his dad's truck. He got a running engine from a customer that bought some crate engine. Going to put it in whenever he finds time to come get it.
