I just had to share these pictures of the masonary art in the Pabst Brewery in Milwaukee. These building were started in 1877 and finished in 1880. It is built with a special brick that is made only in Milwaukee called Cream City brick. It is not the typical red brick but more like a yellow brick made from local sand and clay. There are a lot of Victorian era businesses and homes constructed with this unique Milwaukee Cream City brick through out the city. Can you imagine all the work that went in to this....no power tools or mechanical powered machines to build or lift anything back then. Enjoy!

The turreted building was CPT Frederick Pabst's actual brewery office and all of these buildings were recently restored.
 
Incredible architecture and capability back at the turn of the century. Thanks for sharing. I need to visit Milwaukee just to see the architecture. I recall you shared other buildings in the past within that city. Superb viewing.

There are still thousands of Victorian era buildings and homes through out Milwaukee. Along Lake Shore drive that is on top of a plateau surrouding Lake Michigan for at least a 20 mile stretch there are Victorian era super mansions. That is where all the affluent people of Milwaukee built their homes. Beautiful mansions that the beer barons, industrialists, and doctors and lawyers built their mansions. Milwaukee used to be the machine shop of the world and there is a long distinguished list of people that manufactured stuff in Milwaukee. There are even a couple of cemeteries that have beautiful mausoleums and massive headstones and monuments for these people too.
 
I was just up there last week. Took the grand-kids up to the National cemetery. My oldest grandson really liked the old buildings. He is in his second year of R.O.T.C. and was totally blown away with the beauty of the cemetery. They also got a charge out of the fact that it is right next to the Brewers Stadium, I told them how much their great grandfather loved baseball, and now he could hear the games all the time. I love that city, just wish it was not so cold all the time.
 
Those buildings have some real character. Nice to hear they are being preserved. Too many have been torn down in favour of the monolithic modern designs. It is also remarkable to consider the skill of the the bricklayers and stonemasons from that era.

They restored the turreted building back to CPT. Frederick Pabst's original office. Another building has been restored to the original tap house with a modern touch and brewery and restaurant.

The actual brewey buildings have been converted to very, very nice condo's and apartment's.

I would suggest everyone go there at least once. They also have the world's biggest music festival. It's called Summerfest and it's literally on the shores of Lake Michigan. Usually runs from end of June through the first week of July. They are celebrating the 50th year this year. Milwaukee also has the Harley Davidson Museum, a world class zoo, a beautiful museum and many other cool things to see and do.
 
Great info. PBR (Pabst Blue Ribbon) is, IMHO, by far the best $2 one can spend on tap. I have yet to find a better price/taste ratio.
 
Fresh brewed Pabst served at a perfect 44°.

Nothing better.....except maybe Miller High Life.

That's not a bad idea for a road trip. We are supposed to take a ride out( about 7 1/2 hours drive)to visit our son in Cleveland in July, that puts us about halfway there. I think it would take another 6 or 7 hours from there.
