I'm sure all car guys come to this cross road eventually: when to sell. I've wanted a '57-'60 Letter Car for quite some time. Seeing as I have two classic cars already, the wife simply won't put up with another car unless I wind up living in it. Besides, purchasing a Letter Car simply isn't in my budget so I would have to part with both my '65 300 Convertible and my '64 GTO to make it happen. You guys have seen my cars (most in pictures, a few in person). Would you sell them to buy another car?

Let's see a picture of the GTO.

I'd sell 2 cars in order to buy the dream car.

Cool car. That's my favorite GTO body style.

I'm too old for shifting gears though.

Thanks for the input guys. I really appreciate it. My quandary is this: noting puts a smile on my face faster then when I dump the clutch in the Goat, open up the Trips and lay down a big, smokey burnout through 3 gears. Nothing sounds like all three 2 barrels wide open. I love it; always wanted a '64 GTO. Then there's the Chrysler. This car found me more than I found it. I wanted a big, mid 60's convertible and this car came up. I like the style so I bought and restored it. It wasn't like, "I've got to have a '65 Chrysler." That being said, I love this car. It truly is a phenomenal looking and driving car and nothing beats a '60's convertible. I'm just wondering if my desire to have a finned Letter Car will surpass my losing two cars that I really, really enjoy. Fortunately, I have a friend who has quite the Chrysler Collection: a 28,000 original mile 1960 300F (absolutely STUNNING car), restored 1957 300C, restored 1962 300H and 1962 300 non Letter, 1970 'cuda, 440 Six Pack and a beautiful 1970 300 survivor that looks almost new. He has offered to let me drive his '57 around to see if I even like the way it drives. I know I love the looks but if I don't like the way it drives, it is all for naught. The '60 300F is THE dream car but I am pretty sure those are out of my budget.

As beautiful as both your cars are...........do you think you could recover half of what you invested? To me they both would be worth every penny of your asking price whatever it would be .....of course way out of my budget. It'll be a hard choice my friend.

That's another problem. The sale of both cars will have to fund the entire purchase price of a done car or the purchase price of a project and the restoration. I don't know if I could get enough out of my cars to make it happen.

I couldn't give up the Chyrsler if it was mine...............it's too nice!!!!

I love my cars very much but they are not what I want, the white convertible is for that. I am afraid to let either one go because I know I can never replace them, they are the best of the breed BUT I still need the one I want.
Its a question only you can answer, and driving a friends fin will help you decide.

I would not sell either one of them, but they are your cars and if your dream is something else, so be it. You might do OK on the GTO and get most of your investment back, but unforfunately, I think you will be upside down on the Chrysler. I would take the Chrysler over the GTO any day , but I'm in a minority.

Why do I feel that the thrill for you is more in the journey than the destination? As much as you love the finished product I think you love the restoration process even more. I know I could not get rid of both of them at the same time. There is probably good money available for the GTO and keeping the 300 for a while longer will let you enjoy the fruits of your labor for a time while starting on a new project. Try your friends car and you may not even like it.

Maybe an option would be to sell just the GTO and get a '60 New Yorker or New Yorker project.

You could put a cross ram on it, and have the same feel and 95% of the look with a much smaller investment.

Or... 300F clone?

All I can say is that I think I would have a very difficult time deciding to get rid of your Chrysler...

Would you sell them to buy another car?[/QUOTE]

Tough spot to be in for a car guy.... no doubt. Two beautys in hand... or the dream car on the other side of the fence.

First I would concider the offer to live in one of the cars...... and go for all three. Sounds like the least likely though.
My thought... You sound as thought the 60 300 F is your dream car, That would be the one to go after. If not availiable then don't settle and stick with what you have.

I recently traded a vehicle that I never thought I would part with for a car on my dream car list, and am going to sell another "favorite" car to finance the restoration of it.

I sometimes envy a guy who can be happy from now on with the car he has. I have a long list of desired/dream cars and can't keep or store them all..... So I take on the caretaker role and rotate the stock now and then. So far no regrets.... :imho::eek:hthedrama:
