Penetrating oil's !

Does anyone else have a banner ad above for Kroil Penetrating oil? Amazing how this internet works, isn't it?

I was watching that "Lost in Transmission" show last night. They had an old Ford F100 with an engine that was pretty froze up.
So they squirted some "magic penetrating oil" in each cylinder. There was a slight mention that it included ATF, so I am pretty sure that 50/50 mix was the "magic".

This is all new to me...I've always been stuck using WD40 and/or Liquid Wrench before.

ound this on www.homadetools.com thought very interesting.

Homemade Penetrating Oil

For All of you Mechanic's and Self doer’s out there.
Penetrating Oil - interesting
This was in one of the Military Vehicle Club newsletters

Here is an interesting finding on Penetrating Oils
Recently “Machinist Workshop Magazine” did a test on penetrating oils. Using nuts and
bolts that they ‘scientifically rusted’ to a uniform degree by soaking in salt water, they then
tested the break-out torque required to loosen the nuts. They treated the nuts with a variety
of penetrants and measured the torque required to loosen them.
This is what they came up with:
Nothing: 516 lbs
WD-40: 238 lbs;
PB Blaster: 214 lbs;
Liquid Wrench: 127 lbs,
Kano Kroil: 106 lbs
(ATF)/Acetone mix (50/50): 50 lbs.

This last “shop brew” of 50% automatic transmission fluid and 50% acetone appears to beat
out the commercially prepared products costing far more.
.

I stopped counting the timez I clicked thank you to all the guyz that mentioned the 50%x50% ATF and Acetone mix in the 3 pagez of this thread but thanks X2 Stan for finding the test information and passing it on to the group. I waz looking for it and it haz apparently gone the same place my sockz go when she putz 'um in the dryer. The only thing I can add to what's been said about that mix is to shake it up every time before using because it will separate while standing and keep it closed up tight az mentioned earlier for the reason mentioned. The only thing I've found better then this 50%X50% mix for loosing stuff up that doesn't wanna be loosened iz ah fire wrench and Beez Wax and that combination is some timez not prudent because of space available or the material needing the adjustment and seperation, Jer

So marvel misery oil is atf and acetone mix? And that's what people burn through the engine in the gas? I'll mix my own.

I would be careful putting acetone in any fuel system! That stuff will melt plastic in a heartbeat...and lots of other stuff too.

According to this link, Marvel Mystery Oil more like 75% mineral oil and 25% mineral spirits (turpentine). Apparently, the original formula from the 1920s had a trace of LARD in it.

Definitely has an unusual smell!

Best penetrating oil on the market.

BTW Steve. Not to kill the thread but we're thinkin' about yeah and hope you and yours are stayin' high and dry done there in Burneee. I know about those limestone hillz not able to suck up any water and what happens when it tries to find the gulf. We had 7" in 5 hours one time when we were livin' 'tween Austin and Drippin' and came with in an inch or two of havin' ah swimmin' pool in our little Ponderosa, very scary. Stay safe Pal, Jer
