Pertronix Ignitor I and Flame Thrower coil

I've had great experiences with the standard pertronix and flame thrower on 2 cars although I did change one of the 2 over to ma Mopar electronic ignition after a complete rebuild and underhood resto.

The Pertronix system the OP is installing still looks stock correct? Like the points system is still there.?

Well since the 80's it's been the standard starter for most of the mopar line. I went with a start from a '97 Dodge Dakota with magnum engine. Does the trick.

So a mini starter is more powerful than the standard starter and is smaller I guess to accommodate headers on high performance higher compression engines?
Yup. When it put my shorties on my 440 it was either dent the crap out of them or go with a mini starter. Admittedly, I missed that gear reduction sound but man did it do the job.

Yes... only thing, as I mentioned before is that if you swap out the coil for a flamethrower you have to bypass the ballast resistor... in doing that you are sans ballast resistor which can give away the non stock element.. to remedy this, if it matters to you, take a ballast resistor and gut out the back and connect the terminals with (I think) 10ga wire. Then you have that under hood so everything looks right.

That's pretty cool to have a dummy ballast still there.

On my 66 300, I swapped out to a pertronix ignitor 3 and coil first. When I installed my sniper efi I went to a ignitor 1 triggered by an MSD Streetfire. The ignitor 3 had multi strike which I couldn't use with the efi. Both modules worked great.

You totally lost me on that one,,,:(

Don't worry as you don't need a III. If you raced your car, or more to the point have a manual, then the rev limiter in the III would be cheap insurance. I run Pertronix in all five cars with I in two and II in three. The I runs with the stock Ford yellow top coil and the resistor wire in place. Those two date back to the first year they came out. The other three have in system resistance bypassed and use a Pertronix 0.6 ohm coil. Honestly, in just cruising, I don't notice a difference between the cars.

Thanks for clearing that up for me. Whew!! Your first editions are working well. How old are they?

Wow ,very impressive.
I didn't have either of my Pertronix equipped motors for that long but being that both were daily driven year round (total two hours commute per day) .. never had so much as a hiccup in close to 15 years, anyway.
