The car in the photo was gone in 12 years.

Sarcasm is just a way for the weak minded to compensate. At least that's what I was told by the last teary eyed little wuss who felt I had injured them with an offhand remark. I don't feel weak minded...

What a ridiculous claim. Surely they knew better.

do I detect sarcasm in that reply?

Should have escorted them back to their "safe place".

Cars that last forever = Bad business model
Disposable cars = Good business model

Mopars that last forever = Happy FCBO members
Mopars that don't last forever = Happy Napa Partsman

Gotta love Capitalism!!

Hey, compared to the late 1950s, these cars DID have amazing corrosion protection! It took them twice as long to turn to dust as a 59 Fury. :-/

The ad only says they're "trying to stop rust", that's what their legal department recommended.

Boy I don't miss the salt at all. I bought a brand new W250 CTD pickup in MI in 96, when I moved to FL in 2004, the cab corners and rockers were gone.

I sell repo cars from up north down here, they can drop the resale to half what comparable southern car/truck brings.

When I found my 65 in AL, I could not believe how rust free everything was. I took off my bumper bolts with a 3/8 drive ratchet.

For my car being up here in the Midwest all its life, I was surprised by how little rust there was. The quarter panels behind the wheels have some rust and that's it. You kids with no salt are lucky.

Agreed. Here's a little history on why 50's Mopars rusted at an accelerated rate. The US gov was trying to prop up the Japanese industrial complex after bombing it to dust during WWII to insure they would stay a democracy. They sold it as Patriotic duty to buy Japanese steel. The problem was that the steel coming out of Japan in that era was all recycled scrap from the bombed out bridges, buildings, etc. Most of which had been radiated during the nuclear explosions which caused molecular changes which increased oxidation rates. This phenomenon was unknown to metallurgists at the time. Chrysler was a leader in the 50's in this Patriotic venture which is why 50's Chryslers rotted so quickly.

I'll bet it will last a lot longer than Lee Iacocoa's other project -- the Ford "Rustang"................
