Anyone have a modern replacement idea for '69 Polara pursuit shocks? What would fit and perform the same as original?

Probably any modern shock, that is my plan at least.

The CHP used the factory front shock and a heavy duty rear that wasn't a shock used on other cars from the factory.

Your resto has been flawless in attention to detail so is this going to be carried to the rear shocks also or is that detail being given a pass?

What are the rear shocks spec'd to?

They are not spec'd to anything specific (that I know of), heck they could be the same shock used on a Cadillac.

I'll put factory shocks on the search list along with the correct 8.55 Goodyear Speedway tires and while we're at it I'll add factory air for said tires.

The point is, these are shocks, I see them as no different than tires or brake pads. This car is being restored as a driver and I see no reason to spend money on a NOS shock that probably not as good as todays shocks. I put Gabriels on the front, choose them because they were black.

As I tell people that having correct/NOS (...insert part...) will not be the difference in winning or loosing a show for me.

my two cents:

first, i don't do shows other than sunday drives so judging parameters dont interest me.

second, i guess i put shocks in the category of brake pads/shoes/drums as does as MrMoparCHP ...."expendables" that i would use the best available today that fit and are "heavy duty" designs. they are likely better than the original parts too ... quality, durability, ride, etc.

so if i had NOS shocks that were 40 years old I probably would not use them. that also means if i didn't have the original shocks from 40 years ago i would not look for them.

if i get a 25+ year old cop car with original shocks (assuming I even know what was "original"), I replace them with new and save the old ones if any good.

exception: i own a couple sub 5,000 mile, highly original, NON-cop cars where I might look far and wide for good, "date-correct" parts when i need them.

My mostly original convertible has NOS shocks on the rear and a NOS set waiting to go on the front

Is it just a little extra effort, or do you beat it with a hammer into submission trouble?

Have you ever changed shocks on one of these cars? If that sucker is even a 1/8" larger in diameter it isn't going in without dropping the lower control arm.

I have never had to drop a control arm but they do need to be persuaded
