Neither have I, in fact I have only ever put ONE set of shocks on a C-Body ever and it was a royal pain in the ***.
I was just basing that statement on if the shock was much bigger in diameter than what I put in it would be virtually impossible.
There must be a better trick, for one if I am doing a full rebuild I may put the shock in early when the lower arm is clear.

Made in Japan....but they are "heavier duty". I'm completely satisfied with the set o' four on my yacht. Keeping it under control with sloppy suspension until the rebuild.
