Power steering pump belt tension

My 68s 383 original Federal power steering pump had the upgraded braket. The pump leaked, I switched to a saginaw. The bracket for that it rigid, and solid. No flopping........

Just an FYI, I ordered the rubber floating p/s pump bumper from Gary Goers for the power steering pump bracket. It's on page 20 of his catalog #255 and is $3.10 if anyone is in need of one.

Keep us up to date with turn around time of receiving your order from Gary. He has items you can't find any where else at very fair prices.

I'll keep you updated, my list was small so maybe it will ship quicker. I agree I thought his prices and shipping were very reasonable, and probably no where else you can find some of these parts. At those prices I can't complain about a 6-8 weeks delivery time either if it takes that long, and my car's not being driven very much with the colder weather and winter approaching.

Just an update, I received my parts from Gary Goers today and I mailed in my order on 11/7, so that was pretty quick! I only ordered about 4 items so it was a small order, but still I was expecting a longer wait, so that was a nice surprise! I could see how most cars lost the power steering pump bumper it's pretty small. I guess it installs in the bracket according to my manual, they're must be a slot it fits in. I'll look at it on Saturday, it's way too cold out today! 2014-11-17 16.38.32.jpg

Good to know about Gary, I had about 25-30 items that took 6 weeks. Glad to hear he is still in business and filling orders

Here from an old Chrysler Master Tech series instructional on power steering explains how to use a 1/2 torque driver, which apparently fits into a square notch in these federal/trw brackets. The video is from 1970, so .

I too have trouble getting tension with my pump belt my 383 Plymouth Fury. It's at Steer and Gear being rebuilt right now, and Inbeliecevit has that notch as well. I shall soon see.

Go straight to 16:05 in this youtube vid and see if it helps anyone.

Since this thread has come back from the dead, here's a good video on adjusting the pump.

I think Mr. Bill’s Uncle was in that video:

I can't see John's video here at work, but here is a link to the tool you need and a video illustrating how it is used:

Chrysler Power Steering Bracket Adjuster Tool

I think all the '66 and earlier cars used the above setup.
Lot's of good info from his YouTube channel. He's just about a half hour away in Auburn and I've never met the guy. I've seen a couple of his cars though.

I have a standing invitation to go meet him once the Covid crap isn't so crazy. Probably ought to take him up on it one of these days.

John: You should definitely take Bob up on a visit. His collection of MOPARS - especially letter cars - is astounding and jaw-dropping. I was there a few years ago with the Chrysler 300 Club, Intl. He has at least three (and maybe more) large buildings jammed full of Chryslers.

Okay, so just to resurrect this thread, the power steering (the Federal one) is supposed to be loose and floppy and just use gravity to tension the belt?! (I know that's what I've read, it just seems hard to believe - and yes, mine has that and yes, that's how I found this thread (we could not tighten it to the book specs of 1/4 inch for a new belt)).

Hey good video post ...I ordered one of those rubber snubbers from Mopar Mall, but can anyone tell me precisely where they go on the bracket, the video and diagram point to the general area but where and how in that area do I install it? A picture would be nice
