Okay follow c body guys. I have a power steering issue with my 68 Monaco. It's been going on for a while and now it's gotten worse. Coming home a few years back from Des Moines Good Guys Nationals, I live in Kansas City, I blew a high pressure line right when I was pulling in to the house. Didn't think much about it because it was the original one, maybe it was just time. Two years later, same thing but this time it was on the highway after maintaining a speed of 80 MPH for about an hour and a half. Fast forward to today, New pump, new high pressure line, new motor, I put a 496 stroker in it, on the way to the exhaust shop with open headers I jumped on it and the power steering belt jumped off and hit the water pump belt and caused it to come off. I have a feeling that their is a blockage in the box. I removed the low pressure nipple to see if that check valve was stuck and it wasn't. I pulled the high pressure line at the box and cranked it over and it shot out with ease. I put it back on, started the car and removed the lid on the pump and no movement of the fluid. I also tired to turn the wheel and it was like manual steer. What else should I do before I take the box off and replaced it from one from Firm Feel? When the RPM of the motor increases is the only time I have anything close to power steering. Thoughts?

My guess is the pump. A friend's Chevy Suburban did much the same thing. Eventually the shaft snapped in two. the belt kept it in place. I pulled the belt off to check things out and the shaft fell out. I replaced the pump and flushed the system. No issues since.

The pump is new

That doesn't mean it's good. Even if there is a blockage, you should see it churning the fluid and trying to do its job.

Yeah, I agree, that's why I removed the high pressure line and cranked the motor to check for flow. It had a lot of flow. I thought I mentioned that.
