Production numbers question

Just curious if anyone has good information on 1972 Dodge Monaco coupe, 1972 Polara coupe, and 1972 Imperial coupe USA production numbers? I agree - this thread is totally fascinating.

I have some shipment reports for the 1970-1974 period. These reports were done monthly, and recorded the number of cars shipped for the month. The first report was done for the first month that model year began shipping cars and the last report was for the month the last of the cars of that model year got shipped.

Do not confuse Shipment with Production. Production reports record the cars as they roll off the assembly line and are parked in the factory's back lots awaiting to be shipped. Shipment reports deal with the cars that are shipped off the factory back lots to wherever.

The Shipment Reports I have cover cars that were shipped from the factory, US or Canadian, back lots to anywhere in the United States. "Factory Shipment of Cars - Domestic - United States".

Thanks to the AUTOPACT agreement of 1965, cars were built in the U.S. and Canada for sale in the U.S. and Canada, duty free.

Thus the "Chrysler Corporation U.S. Passenger Car Production" reports were done at the end of the model year for cars built in U.S. plants for the American market. And, also cars built in Canadian plants for the American plants. I have this report for model years 1965 through 1969.

In theory there should be reports for cars built in Canadian plants for the Canadian market, as well as American plants for the Canadian market.

But that's just theory.

Anyway, getting back to 1972 Dodge hardtops, below is the final report for 1972 Dodges C body cars shipped for the year. This report is for only 1972 model year Dodge C-body cars shipped to buyers, dealers, etc. in the United States of America. I have also entered the Polara Special - a low priced line Chrysler Canada offered at Dodge dealers. It was priced down with the Fury I. As a result no cars are recorded as being shipped.

TOTAL - 132,141

Total production at Belvidere and Newark for 1972 Dodge C body models (Polara and Monaco) came to 149,914.

The difference between the two totals would be the number of cars shipped to Canada - 17,773

One small item on the 1972 Dodge Polara. 457 Dodge Polara Taxi sedans were built - and 30 of them were ordered with a slant six engine. The standard engine was the 318 V8.

Bill do you happen to have a report for 73 Fury, mine was built in Newark Deleware and shipped to Canada where it was sold in the Ottawa Ontario area to the Canadian National Exhibition Association.

This is amazing information for those of us restoring these cars.
