My daughter asked to make her old man's car to prom. So proud of my Mopar girl!

my kids, girls too, made me rent party limos. I was happy to do it .. just wish they liked my cars a little more :)

Anyway, congrats 'Dad"! I know (many of us do I'm sure) that swell of pride as well. :)

My son took the girl next door to the junior prom and the following year, to the senior ball. Both times he took my Corvette. This was 12 years ago. Note my A12 Roadrunner in background. I drove a couple of their classmates as part of an ongoing program to chauffeur seniors to the ball called the "Crystal Ball Cruise".

My son has three kids now... as does the girl next door. She's still next door... she and her husband live there now... but she's.... ummmm.... let's say a little larger these days. The Corvette is gone.. as is the A12.

So Big John... Why are the A12 and the 'vette gone...?
And replaced by what...?

I can see the vetted moving on.....

But the A12. Too bad we didn't keep the special cars we had back in the day

I had the A12 since the 70's. I had lost interest in it and while it really wasn't for sale, a friend offered the right money for it and he owns it now. I don't miss it at all.

The Corvette... Mrs. Big John developed some physical issues that made it difficult for her to get in or out of the car. As much as I liked the car, it wasn't any fun without her. That car is one of the very few cars that I miss owning.

Both were replaced with my 70 300 vert.

To get the thread back on track though... We did the "Crystal Ball Cruise" again last year for the senior ball with the 300. We couldn't do it this year because of a prior commitment. Some pics from last year in this link. You'll see my 300 in the background of a couple shots. My old A12 is there too, with its new owner.

Well... You can't keep everything.

I thought it would be tough to let go of the A12, but really the car wasn't near as much fun as it once was. When I started looking at an enclosed trailer for it is about the time I lost interest.

I had put about 75k miles on that car over the years... Most when I was younger. Wrestling the manual steering car into a parking place ... Lifting the hood off... 4.10 rear... No big deal when I was in my 30's.. Now I'm in my 60's...

The Corvette... I know most Mopar guys likes to hammer on them, but the C4 Corvette is a lot of bang for the buck. They aren't as overly complicated as the later cars are, so you can still work on it yourself. They handle well... reliable.. Have the creature comforts like A/C and nice seats. You can buy a nice one for C-body money.

I never fit in with most of the Corvette guys though... A lot of those guys are the ones with the carpet on the garage floor... because they never touch a wrench.

I bought a Z28 new in 1989. Nothing new then was fast....Lost interest in it and sold it.

John: I'm right there with ya. I had a B4C Police Camaro with the LS1 engine, and I really enjoyed driving it, but Bonnie would not get in it at all. Although it was comfortable - once you were in it - it was too low to the ground for her. Since I traded it for the '66 300, her only comment now is: "Are we gonna break down?"

So why didn't he take the A12???? I know what I would have drove or didn't you give him the option?

Age restrictions on the collector car insurance kept him from driving the A12. He was fine with using the Corvette.
