just finishing a 20+year restoration on a 300G with one modification .I swapped in a 62 torqueflite from a new yorker (that means crank too) my question is what is the correct length of new yorker dipstick, mine was missing. any 62 new yorker owners out there willing to give measurment ?

Your issue will be dodging the cross Rams AND the air cleaner with the transmission dip stick and tube. The '61 with Cross Rams being a cast iron center section had the dip stick housing connection and dip stick a much longer length and bolted to the block for additional support with one of the bell housing bolts and mounted to the transmission a certon way. The '62 with the entire aluminum torque flite body and NO CROSS RAMS, the dip stick housing and dip stick were a different and much shorter length and mounted to the transmission differently. If you're lucky and you still have the cast iron transmission OR CAN GET IT BACK, GET IT AND SAAAAAVE THAT TUBE AND DIP STICK even if you have to buy it back from where ever you let it get to. THEN BY USING BOTH DIP STICK TUBES YOU CAN MEASURE, CUT AND SPLICE USING THE BOTTOM OF THE '62 TUBE AND THE UPPER PORTION OF THE '61 TO DUPLICATE AND GET THE PROPER LENGTH RIGHT AND STILL HAVE THE RIGHT LENGTH DIP STICK...FYI, When you're done cutting and splicing, you've got it right when the dip stick ends up being 1/2 inch below the aluminum casting as it protrudes into the inner pan section TO BE CHECKED OBVIOUSLY WITH THE TRANSMISSION PAN REMOVED. Trust me, been there done that, Jer

jer,yes I saved all the parts the cast tranny is even fresh and not for sale, that is 1/2 in, into the pan correct ?

thanks Jer,the most important issue is correct amount of fluid and being able to measure it.I have the 62 tube in place no problems there, just no stick.I figure a 62 new yorker stick should be right that s where the trans came from.

Nope, sorry but you're wrong Randy. Measure the length of both dip stick tubez and you'll see what I'm talking about. You need to duplicate the the length of the '61 tube by using the '62 tube lower section so it will secure properly in the aluminum transmission body and with some of the extra length of the '61 upper section to get the correct length and use the the '61 dip stick in the fabbed up '61+'62 tube. The Rams will prevent you from physically getting at the dip stick handle from the shorter New Yorker dip stick tube and dip stick. The reason for the cut and splice iz that mother Mopar saw fit the change the tube mounting design when she went from the cast iron TQ in '61 to the all aluminum TQ in '62 and later. Your '61 dip stick will not attach to the '62 transmission. The extended tube and dip stick was not needed in the '62 because that year the 300H letter car used the 2X4 quad intake and carb. set up north and south. All '60, '61, '63, '64 300 Cross Ram carz used the long dip stick and tube because mother needed to re-position the end of the tube AND LENGTHEN IT FOR ACCESS. Remember, measure 12 timez and cut once. If theirz any doubt az to the integrity of the weld job also remember that JBWELD now haz the 4 minute set time stuff too. Ask my how I know this, lol
