Hi have just purchased a 1961 Chrysler Newport - not running
Engine and box have been changed to 440 and 727
My question is can the 727 be adapted to the push button auto selector
and if so how - i don't have the old automatic
i would really love to discuss with someone who has done this

Call Imperial Services at 989-843-7000. https://www.imperialservices.net/ I think you have to send them your shifter and the modify it. Coast is around $600 US. They don't have it listed on their site so you will need to call them.

Well a 1962 has the same dash with a 727. So if the shifter is not the same it may swap in there.

I swapped a 727 pushbutton cable from a 1962 into a cast iron torqueflight in a 1961. Worked good.

does the 727 have any special attachments for the push button shifter or do you just adapt

Sorry what year is the 440 and 727? Are you talking about a 727 lever transmission (1966 and after) or a 727 cable shift (1965 and before)

Post up the trans numbers on the drivers side pan rail so we can tell what you are dealing with..... number would likely start with G or PK

1962-1965 727 were cable shift. The cable goes inside the trans. First photo is a cast iron from 1960. 1962-1965 727 same idea.

1966 and newer 727 is linkage shift. A shaft comes out of the valve body through the case. Levers bolt to these shafts to shift and for the throttle pressure linkage. Second photo.

thank you that explains it - my 727 is a later model with levers
is there any way to adapt my 727 or do i need to find an earlier 727

I'm not sure that anything is made to make a cable shift work.

Look on side of trans below the linkage just above pan for the stamped in numbers.

thanks everyone for your input
helped me heaps
think i have it figured out now
