mine was Y16 and this was the explanation given to me by Dacuda

Sales bank cars were cars that were not customer ordered.kinda like a dealer ordered car, some had full options and some not .it was so someone could buy it on the spot .

a sales bank car (Y16) was simply built as stock by Chrysler.
If a dealership wanted a certain car with special options and colour they would have had to buy it (Y14-sold car) and lay down money to get it produced. It was way better (financially) for the dealership to receive sales bank cars. They were still owned by Chrysler, not the dealers.

However, rumor has it that Chrysler also produced little-optioned cars and shoved them down the dealer's throat, i. e. they shipped some of these, too, whether the dealer wanted them or not. Chrysler Corp's reasoning was that these cars had a low sticker price and would be good to lure prospects into the showroom, yet the dealers knew they never sold these low-optioned cars, at least if these were C-Bodies. I must admit that I don't remember where I heard that story.

When changing over a 1971 to a 1970 model you'd not only need a 1970 grille and rear bumper, but also the front and rear valance.

The interior would look like the one depicted in the middle on this Hamtramck page. The seat surfaces would be light gold, the bolster and other parts would be medium gold and the carpet and headliner would be dark gold.

Don't forget the side view mirror.....and then the dash, did the 70 dash face have the wood grain on the sports?

That's what I thought so that would have to change as well. A lot more involved in going from 71 to 70 or vice versa than most realize

Enjoyable read! Just the facts ma'am...

Carsten, the 70 Sport Fury did have wood grain on the dash, door panels etc,. Just so you know. At least all of mine have.

Hi Trev,

both of my 70 SFGT don't have woodgrain on the dash.
Just on the doorpanels (and console in case it has been ordered).
Here is a pic

Interesting, I wonder what option code designated a wood insert on the dash. I"ll look at my build sheet.

I think this is a scenario where even the assembly line wasn't informed on which part goes where when and if...

I'm confused. Are we still assuming that this 1971 had parts from the previous model year installed on the production line? I know "anything could happen", but seriously, was that even possible?
