Rear axle leak/resealing

Just thinking out loud... A chest freezer for the axle and a hot oven would put that retainer on without a press... Somebody else can do the math... but I'll bet that heating the ring to 250 degrees F would do the job nicely over an axle that spent the night in the freezer. .. That temp wouldn't hurt anything.

Just saying...
I purposely didnt mentioned that method..but was thinking along those lines too.

So I just got done with replacing the inner seal. Not too bad of a job except i didnt have the right size round object to hammer it in, so i messed up the metal a little. Probably gonna get a seal installer and redo. I had wearmarks on the axle shaft from the old seal and the old one was rock hard, polished the axle shaft and repacked the bearing and put it back together.

Can someone post a picture of the 8 3/4 housing with the axleshaft removed so i can have a good look on the surfaces? That axle came out waaaay too easy and i suspected the race was spinning but there are no marks indicating such thing on the bearing race!?
