Rear End Gear ID

The tag I found was on the side. I cleaned it with a brush because that was the obvious thing to do. I still cant read it. Nevertheless, I picked up a 3.23 open today. Even if its a 2.94 going to a 3.23 isnt going to be that big of a difference.

The tags are usually on the center section under a but on one of the bolts. Its dirty and greasy... Clean it up a bit and put a light on it to see it.

What if it's already a 3.23 and you would be spending time swapping in the same ratio..........
There should be a fender tag and it will give the axle code it had originally........

My rear gear is making a pretty severe noise. I wanted a back up incase the one in the car is past rebuilding.

Im not swapping it out for performance or shits and giggles as apparently you have assumed so yes I would be spending my time swapping out for the same ratio.

If your next time is "Factory Owners Manual" then I think I'll be ok.

I do appreciate everyone elses help though.

From an original '66 Plymouth service manual.....:reading:

'66 Fury axle ratio with manual trans.
6 cyl. - 3.55
8 cyl. - 3.23

'66 Fury axle ratio with Torqueflite
6 cyl. - 3.23
8 cyl. - 2.93

Personally the 2.93 is something I never put my paws on even though I evidently have one in my '66 Fury III that had a 383 2bbl. In the C-bodies I haven't seen anything but 2.76 or 3.23s from '67 -'70, but in the B-bodies I have seen several 2.94s in the 8.75"... The only odd ratio that raised an eyebrow was a 741/8.75" from a '64ish Dodge 1/2 ton that had a 3.58 ratio.

You resurfaced, welcome back! I was wondering when we'd hear from you again.

The power supply unit in my computer burned up and I just got a new old one to get me by until I get a new tower.

Once the weather turns I will be dropping in more often again.

Ok so that's exactly one thing to look forward to when the weather turns...
