I have a remote mirror on my parts car and I'd like to use it on my car. I took off the door panel but had to call it quits right there and go to work. I glanced at the controls for the mirror and saw the cables and let it be. I looked in the FSM but didn't find any mention of the mirror or pictures showing it. Can I use this mirror with my current t door? I don't know how to take in apart , and would just like a little knowledge before I screw something up.

You should have no problems. The handle is held on with a large nut, then three nuts for the mirror. The door on you other car should be stamped for the remote mirror already. If not, make a templet and drill the door, the mirror and gaskets are quit forgiving, use everything from your parts car. and you will be golden.

You don't need to take any cables off the mirror or anything like that. You only have to have a large enough hole where the mirror mounts so everything passes through.

Assuming this is a door mounted control, there's also a spring metal retainer that holds the control in place when the door panel is off. Pry that off and push the control into the door. Unbolt the mirror and pull it and the cables/control out.

Just look at how everything is mounted on your parts car and you'll be fine.

The control was flopping around so I'll have to look for that spring. Someone took the regulators out of the car.

It's not a big deal if it's gone.

I'm not sure how it is on other makes/years but on my '65 300 I had to removed the cables from the controller to get it off the car.

I could be wrong, but I think those mirrors are pretty standard from 65 and up. I've never seen one were the cables needed to be taken off.

I assume the mirror looks like this one and the controller is in the door. The mirror would be mounted on the door.

I believe this one has the controller in the dash. I've never dealt with them, so yes, it looks like a bigger controller and it would seem to me that you would have to disconnect the cables to get them through into the dash. This would be a mirror mounted on the fender.

I guess the question is if the OP has a door mounted controller or a dash mounted controller and what year did that change and then which models had what.

Mine is door mounted and the controller wouldn't fit through the hole in the door so I had to remove the cables from the controller. It's possible the controller for the later years is thinner, allowing it to pass through the hole in the door.

The newer ones are definitely smaller in diameter and can pass through the hole for the mirror. I've taken them off 68 and up cars and know this for sure.

I guess it comes down to what year that changed.

I know on my 65 Polara the controller passes through the door just fine - it has many times on both sides.

I had to remove the cables from the controls. The mounting location is different than my non remote mirror;

It's definitely mounted back further for the remote mirror. I do have the extra doors if I want to use them. Have to decide what to do.

there is a thread in the forums that discusses side mirror placement. IIRC it was so random, it was like the factory line was just putting them wherever. pick a day, mount it there.
