Hello All, I'm looking to replace the drivers door remote mirror on my 73 New Yorker. Does the glass have to come out to do this. If anyone has experience with this, I'd appreciate some advice.

If you are to replace the entire assembly you will have to remove the door panel. For this, remove the nut around the remote adjusting pin and other items like the pull handle. Then remove the door panel and loosen the two nuts that hold the mirror base and remove mirror assembly.

If you are only to replace the mirror glass, the mirror can stay in place. You'll need to carefully pry off the existing mirror glass from its swiveling metal base.

Thanks for replying , I have the door panel off and need to replace the entire unit, the window is in the way, I can't access the nuts that secure the mirror with the window in place, just wondering how to do it with minimal disassembly.

Its been a long time for me but isnt there a hole in the glass to access the mirror? If the window is just lowered a little bit?
Ive never taken one off a 73 Chrysler but I have on many 71 Dodges. I never removed the glass to remove the mirror... damn its been a long...loong time

That's what I was thinking, but the only hole in glass doesn't allow for that in any position the glass is in.

Glass can stay in. Long arms with flexible joints are recommended, though. And wear a long-sleeved shirt to prevent the sheetmetal from bruising your skin.

Haha, that could be a problem, I have neither, and with the shirt on, I'll never fit through the hole. Looks like I'll have to lube up the arm with 10W40 and jump in.
