I have a '65 Fury III with the Poly 318, and my power steering pump has started leaking profusely. It appears to be the seal on the pulley shaft that is the issue.

I'm interested in hearing opinions on rebuilding the pump versus replacing it and any suggestions on where to purchase a new one.

Thanks!

I would rebuild yours rather than buy new. Pretty sure you have a Federal pump. At least mine does. Anyway, I would buy the Mopar shaft seal rather than the aftermarket one since they are way inferior to the Mopar seal. I tried a Standard seal from the parts house and it was not as thick as the mopar seal and it leaked more that then old failed seal. When I took it back apart, I noticed it was not leaking around the shaft but around the outside of the seal. I ended up paying the $50.00 for the Mopar (part number 1734913) seal. You need a puller to get the pulley off and you need to remove to canister to re install it since you don't want to tap the pulley back on without having the rear of the shaft supported. If you don't have a pulley puller, you can rent one from most any parts store.

Thanks for the info!
