Hey guys, does anyone know the solution of how to get a replacement Tital for one that is lost??

I assume you need the car titled before you get it exported to Australia. The first question is which state was the vehicle titled in and is it currently in the same state? Every state has different procedures and forms so that's where you have to start.
Bets solution is don't lose it. Here in the States, you will find at least 50 different answers. Florida brought back the "bonded title" a few years ago, but it's a bit costly from what I understand (haven't done it myself), something like $600 and up I've been told.
If you own the car and there is a record of it, you might have a lost title process with your local government. If your trying to purchase, lost titles make lots of parts cars out of usable machines.

Another question, besides where it was titled is the year of the car. For example, New York State never issued titles on cars prior to 1973.

MM, if the owner has simply lost their title they can apply for a replacement on the car at their DMV.
If the car is being sold with a bill of sale only, then it will depend on which state you are in to know what your options are. In North Carolina a bonded title can be applied for after a police stolen vehicle report is done which is free. Then a bond based on the percentage of the price paid is done. This bond is paid to an insurance company of your choice, armed with that bond you can then approach the DMV and apply for a new title to be generated. Typically it is a couple of hundred bucks on a car that's worth say 3000 or less. The more the vehicle is worth the more the bond costs.

Ok guys I will answer your questions as best I can
I have a copy of the title in front of me but of course a copy will not cut it.
Ity is a 77 year model wagon I bought about 4 years ago but untill it got to Long Beach I did not know the Title was not with it.
Last Titaled owner was in NJ New Jersey I suppose? a company called Main Street Motors. Anyone know them? Suggestions from here?

Since you have a copy of the title in front of you it has the owners name on it and should have an address as well, contact them and find that title. If they have lost it, have them apply for a replacement copy of their lost title and then they can send it to you.
Which may work great, if they are still above ground... I never will understand avoiding getting a title changed to save a few buck in taxes...
also you can apply for a vermont license plate and registration on line---they also dont have a title on the old cars----a friend has done several cars that way---i have run a few through private title companies like broadway and united......

Thank you for your help with this guys. So does anyone know how much Broadway charges?? If I can afford it I am happy to use them if it is the best way.

Ok so now I know thr price Broadway charges but I also read the new rules they have to followthat will make it near to impossible to get a Title.
