Just got done with a 2200 mile road trip from NY to Iowa to rescue this lucky '70 TNT 440 Newport Custom! Seller was midway yanking the drivetrain by the time we negotiated a deal that allowed me to get the car complete lol.

My dad growing up in the mid 1970s would tell me stories of a neighbor down the street who had one (was an ex FBI car) so these elusive Newports always intrigued me. This is the 1st TNT Newport Ive ever come across which is why I jumped on it when Wyatt sent me the marketplace ad.

Deal struck just in time before the drivetrain was pulled:

Congrats @c-barge on getting CL41U0C219353 (Edit: thank you for the build sheet! I could not figure out the last two digits with certainty). Look forward to the tag!

And: @71Polara383 comes through again!

Thread 'U-code 1970 Newport 4dr in Iowa' NOT MINE - U-code 1970 Newport 4dr in Iowa

Its this car. I was already in negotiations before you even posted it  Finally had a long weekend to go out and get it.

Needs a stub frame but the rear rails are rock solid. Fortunately I have a iso stub at home in need of a car so it works out.

Good score!
I still have this 70 NY available for parts if you need anything?

Blue Newport Custom interior & sheet metal is what it mostly needs but you being out in California kind makes that difficult haha. Would love to have those lower quarters & trunk extensions.

Nice save. Wish I would have saved more of my Sea Bodies over the years.

Got a pile of documentation with this car as well including the original window sticker, sales option check list, the original 1970 Iowa title, warranty cards, etc!! Found the obituary to the original owner and turns out he was a thermonuclear engineer for the military through the '50s &'60s!! And was also big into racing thus order this Newport with a lot of good stuff to tow his racecars!!

TNT 440
Tow Package
Sure Grip
A/C
REAR seat heater & defrost
Am/Cassette stereo radio

One expensive Newport when it was new! Hopefully a broadcast sheet or two survived in the car. Looks like the seats never been out of it.

Great score. Glad to find out it was you who got the Newport.

Thank you for saving this car! I was really hoping someone with room and the financial means here would step up! Can’t wait to see this one brought back!
