Stopped by the shop today, the wonder wagon is on the rotisserie, they are using the best of both cars. Was excited to see the progress, but sad to see how damaged, my original car was, to me the rust at all the important weld joints was really bad. Perhaps repairable, but if the repairs failed in an accident I would feel real bad. Saftey ruled over the decision in getting a donor. Out in the light of day she was absorbing the closing days of life, not much left of a car, but plenty of good memories to go into the new restored car. But, I do have a convertible for a while. Hope mom and dad like, the effort and those on FCBO, see this as saving both cars. Oh here is garage art 101
Wow, man. What a build! I've often thought of tracking down my Fathers 69 Nova and doing this but, assuming I could find it, it came from Texas new w/o undercoating and lived in New England since.. Was starting to go when my dad sold it... Likely a Pepsi can 100 times over by now.
Very inspiring work though!
I think it is easier to do a car you own, rather than one you have grown up with, learned to drive in, first dates, honey mooned in, almost getting mushe'd in by a freight train. Too many memories makes it hard to look at some times
It will certainly be well worth the effort when it's complete. I think you have an amazing project and memories to go along with it.. Keep us all updated.
Hot off the press, it looks like the shop squeezed in the color coat on one of the final nice days of summer. The car has never looked so good. Four weeks and hopefully will see it in person. I escape from Canada, Winnipeg is next stop with Appleton and Iowa City then Milwaukee for a week. Hope to take a day off then. Meantime photos and a bill will have to do.
Scary thing I was there when it was picked up at Henry N. Biekers Chyrsler Plymouth in Hammond Ind. Like the two stage for the deep finish, but definitely will no be factory, talking today with the shop, the roof was cut and buffed, looks like the balance of the car was done also. Hopefully we'll see in a couple
I High School mate named Andy named the car Wonderwagon, because it kept on running. It's part of whom I am, so it's odd, different and it has become cool. Besides a Camaro for a trip on Rt 66?
Flew home on the 14th to get drilled and filled, made time to go out to American Auto Restration to look at the Wonderwagon. Picked up the some unnecessary parts, luggage rack, front fenders and heater core. But back to the car at hand took some snappies to share.
