Reuse Torque convertor?

Thank you guys! I'm more at ease now. I got the starter, and torque convertor bolts out tonight. Will pick away more at it when time permits. Keeping my fingers crossed that the convertor hub isn't cracked...

Only 1978 and up cars had lockup torque converter's.....unless someone put a lockup converter and txsm in a pre 1978 car.

Note: Only 1978 Newport's and NYB's have BB lockup txsm's and converter's.

How do I tell the difference between the two? A lock up, and non lock up?

Zac, should be no problem reusing a converter.

I know money is tight... FYI, a new converter is about $100 from AAP. You might be able to get 20%-30% off ordering it through AAP on-line.

I went through the trouble of finding a convertor for the 360 that is currently in the Monaco. Had to deal with a real know it all pain in the ***. He sold me a convertor that did not bolt up, but did not want to hear about it from me. Kept telling me how it should bolt right up. Whatever a$$ hat, give me my money back. But that led me to a nice drivetrain shop. They had my correct convertor in stock, for cheaper, and ready to go. Guess where my future business will be going?

Monaco 75,

I had the same issue with my 727 leaking like a sieve when I first picked her up. Driving it helped slow the leaks a little (car had been sitting), but then I put in some AT-205 Re-Seal and it really helped a lot! Learned about this stuff from my father in law who's a farmer. Never been a fan of additives for leaks, but after trying this stuff, and seeing it work, I recommend it.
If the reason for puling the tranny is for leaks alone, trying this might be an easier way out for now.

Thanks 73

I had good luck with the lucas additive before. It kept a nasty leak at bay for a couple years. Eventually it needed to be fixed though. Ended up being a crack on the convertor hub. The car is getting legal in a couple weeks, and I want to be able to depend on it. I did buy her to be a daily driver! Deff don't want to get her on the road only to pull her back off, and back on jackstands.

I just went to the Anchor website.
#2250.
It's the same one.

Uhh-Ohh

Lock up has a small machined snout on the input shaft, this is where high press fluid comes into converter to lock the friction disc in the converter.

Someone on the newyorkeronline.org site was saying that lockup torque converters didn't make it to the fullsize cars in 78? Just curious on that theory?

Totally wrong. And for shame hearing it come from that place. My gawd have they gone down the toilet.
